Small Changes for Your Health

Simple things you can do everyday to improve your health.

Sometimes it’s the small things that get results. It’s natural to feel like you need to make major, sweeping changes to get healthy – but it is simply not true. The difference between success and failure often comes down to the daily decisions you have to make. Below we uncover 10 small tips that lead to big health improvements.

1. Go to bed 30 minutes earlier

North Americans are known for being the most sleep-deprived people in the world. It’s almost a badge of honour to brag about running on 5-hours of shuteye per night. While it may be good for the ego – it’s devastating to your health. So if you’re used to hitting the sack at 11, try going to bed at 10:30. The thirty-minute difference can be the difference between a decent night’s sleep and a great night’s sleep.

2. Take a Daily Multiple Vitamin

This is one of the easiest ways to improve your health. A multiple vitamin boosts nutrition and also leads you to drinking an extra glass of water and eating a balanced breakfast.

3. Coconut Oil Coffee

Coconut oil is great for your heart, skin, hair, metabolism and brain. The health benefits go on and on. An easy way to get your daily dose is add a tablespoon of organic coconut oil to your morning coffee. Known as “bulletproof coffee”, this concoction tastes great too.

4. Probiotic Yogurt

If you already love the creamy taste of yogurt – try a brand with probiotics in it. Probiotics are healthy bacteria that assist with digestion as well as a whole host of other health benefits.

5. Lemon Water

Everyone knows it’s healthy to drink eight glasses of water per day. But if you’re looking for an extra boost, try adding some freshly squeezed lemon to your glass as well as a lemon wedge. The lemon will help improve digestion and provide a little extra vitamin C. Plus it tastes great too.

6. Take the Stairs

Instead of using the elevator every day at the office try walking up the stairs. And while you’re at it – take an extra trip up and down during your lunch break too. Just a few extra steps per day will help improve your cardio and improve your strength.

7. Popeye Power

If you’re already drinking a protein shake in the morning or after your daily workout, try adding a handful of spinach and putting it into the blender. Spinach is a super food chalked full of antioxidants. Worried about taste? You won’t even be able to tell there’s any spinach in it other than the colour.

8. Afternoon Snack

Instead of going to the vending machine in the afternoon for an unhealthy snack, buy some bulk almonds and keep them at your desk. Unsalted almonds are great for your heart and will provide energy for those late afternoon doldrums.

9. Morning Stretch

Try waking up just three minutes earlier in the morning to get a light stretch. Just a few minutes of light stretching is equal to an entire cup of coffee.

10. Take Ten

Stressed out? Take a quick 10-minute break at work and get out of the building to clear your head. Meditating for just a few minutes can lower cortisol levels and help you feel better about your day.
