I'm feeling stuck, like I can't move forward in my life. What can I do?

Do you ever feel stuck? Do you have situations where you want to achieve something, but somehow you feel powerless?

I am going to offer you suggestions on how to deal with this situation. Suggestions to get you going again. Ideas that will help you step outside of your current frame of mind, shift your thinking, and gain a new perspective. Ideas to move you from being a victim of circumstances to being the driver in the vehicle called you.

Describe Your Situation Clearly

To begin to move forward start by answering these questions:

1. In what part of your life are you stuck? Your job? Your social life? Your family? Why?
2. What precisely is/are the problem(s)?The simple step of description and clarity is essential.


Sit down in a quiet room and spend at least 30 minutes writing about your situation. Begin by writing the answers to questions 1 and 2. Then write answers to the following questions:

1. Why do I feel stuck?
2. What have I done that has not worked?
3. What other ideas do I have to break out of this situation and move forward?

Write the details and ask yourself the questions. Then notice what you come up with.


At a different time, once again sit in a quiet space. Turn off all music, TV, and dim the lights. Make yourself comfortable and begin to breathe slowly and deeply with your eyes closed. Focus on your breath and let the issue you’re feeling stuck about just be there, not the focus, just present. Allow new ideas and new perspectives to enter your mind as you become generally aware of new ways to view the situation.

Ask People Close to You

Again, when you feel stuck, oftentimes you just need a new perspective or a shift in your thinking. And this can be difficult to do alone. Ask your best friends what they think. Talk to your sibling or a family member, see what your closest co-workers think. Ask them what they think of your situation and what they would do if they were in it. Be open to feedback and get some input.


Start brainstorming new ways that you can get you what you want. For example, if your goal is to have more people come to your store but you’re struggling to gain traction, start brainstorming some new ways that you can increase the traffic coming through your front door. Make a list of every idea that comes to mind without judging it. After your “brain dump”, you can go back and revise your list. Let some fresh ideas come to you.

Do Something New

Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. The message? Try doing something new, even if it’s small. Getting unstuck is all about taking some baby steps to start moving forward again towards what you want. So take the first step.
