What's the difference between "Botox” and “Juvederm”?

We know they are intended to make one feel and look younger, but how do they work and what is the difference between the two?

Are you confused about Botox and Juvederm and how it can benefit you? We see a lot of advertising on television and in women’s magazines about these cosmetic enhancing products BOTOX® Cosmetic and JUVEDERM®. We know they are intended to make one feel and look younger, but how do they work and what is the difference between the two?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected into areas of the face to soften lines; between the eyebrows, on the forehead, and the crow’s feet or laugh lines around the eyes. JUVEDERM®, as well, is injected to soften lines; the indentations from the lower end of the nose to the mouth corners, the cheeks, and the depressions running down from the mouth corner to the jaw line.

The difference: Botox®
So if these products are both used to soften lines; what is the difference between BOTOX® Cosmetic and JUVEDERM®? To answer that question we need to look at the mechanics of each product. Over time, muscle contractions gradually break down the sponge or collagen of the face, causing lines to form. These aging lines or wrinkles are most evident when the muscles are contracted in an expression; smile, frown, concentration, etc. BOTOX® relaxes these strong muscles that cause the lines and allows the skin to lay flat.

The difference: JUVEDERM®
JUVEDERM®, on the other hand, is made up of hylauronic acid (H/A), which is a natural filler in the face. The important word to note is “filler”. As we age, the filler or H/A, fat, and collagen in the face depletes leaving hollows; darkened circles under the eyes, flattened cheeks, and an irregular jaw line. The filler, JUVEDERM, is used to plump up these areas where the volume has been lost – JUVEDERM® filler acts like the feathers in a pillow.

Working Together
Both wrinkling and depleting of collagen in the face indicates signs of aging. Therefore, by using BOTOX® Cosmetic and JUVEDERM® filler, synergistically, we can enhance a more youthful; less tired looking you, by flattening wrinkles and plumping the hollows of the face. Consult with a reputable, cosmetic doctor and find out how these products can personally benefit you.
