Support During Pregnancy and Childbirth

Is there someone that can help me through my pregnancy and child birth? Besides my husband…

Look to Doula's For Help With the Unknown

Your partner plays such a vital role throughout the pregnancy and birth.  While a doula can never replace the love and support that a partner can provide, they can help with the unknown and be a valuable resource for you and your partner during the birth process.

You are both bound to experience a wide range of emotions at your birth. You may feel excited, anxious, or potentially fearful. A doula will help you cope with all the fears and anxieties you and your partner may have. A doula is sympathetic, as well as informed. She can be a quiet and calm presence offering both of you reassurance. Your birth partner often ends up more involved because the pressure of the unknown is removed and both of your needs are being met by having doula support. The doula gives the birth partner helpful suggestions about what comfort measures work best during different stages. Because this is an intimate experience between you and your partner there will be times when your doula will stay in the background to allow privacy.  In the event of a long or difficult labour the doula can give the one-on-one attention the mother needs, while the partner takes a break or rests. A doula will help both the mother and partner to relax, and help to ease their concerns therefore allowing them both to enjoy this remarkable experience.

"Having a doula before, during and after the birthing process allowed me to feel comfortable, confident and secure in my decision making. I learned a lot about the baby's development and what to expect during the pregnancy and at the birth. I felt like I had a coach nearby to alleviate my anxieties and fears. Michelle was able to do this because she is non-judgemental, very open and does not speak in euphemisms." - first time dad
