Everyone is laying on their back, in totally deserved relaxation at the end of a hard yoga class. It is an amazing moment when I am teaching a yoga class and it is the end of class when shavasana (Corpse pose: laying on your back and doing nothing but connecting with your breath) is very welcomed. The students start to focus on their inhalation and I take them through the actions of remembering that their belly button needs to rise towards the ceiling and that as they exhale their belly button falls down towards their spine. And all at once, in the quiet of the yoga studio, we become a community through the power of the breath.
Just like building community through breath in yoga, building a community within your business creates strength. Knowing that they are supported by a strong community allows a yoga class or even your employees to take chances, work harder and come together during challenges. How can you start to build a community in your business? Here are some ideas:
If you’re a health pro, building this strong community within your practice makes it even more possible for you to engage with the community surrounding you. Who is in that community? Your patients. Patients who will know that you are working together as a team for their health and benefit. Invite people to get to know your community by hosting open houses or events like workshops and trainings. It’s another way to share a breath.
The ideas can be used in any business and every business can benefit from having a community mindset. Gone are the days were people expected to work in silos and have no interaction with the rest of their team. Now? They want to be engaged and feel like they are part of a team. Without building a community, how can you hope to achieve this? Can you afford to keep replacing staff because they aren’t engaged? You might want to take some deep breaths then.
As a fellow health pro, I know the power that can happen through creating and being part of a community mindset. Sometimes people need to be reminded of the right way to breathe and being shown how to breathe together is more effective than shallowly breathing on your own. Take a moment to see how you can breathe community in to your business and watch the power happen.
I hope you are all practicing breathing from your belly and feeling the freedom of opening up your breath and business ideas.
