Baseline Tests For Children Explained

Baseline Tests For Children Explained, InFocus Rehabilitation Centre Inc., Physiotherapy, Baseline Tests

Something to consider if your child plays a contact sport...

My child plays in contact sport, how old does he/she have to be to have a Baseline Test?

ImPACT has recently released a Paediatric Baseline Test, which is reliable and valid for children aged 5 – 12 years old. The test is completed on a full sized iPad and only takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. The test requires minimal reading and it is designed to be a game-like test, to keep children interested and engaged.

Ideally, the pediatric baseline test would be completed yearly, as neurological development is rapid in this age group. As children get older, their cognitive speed and memory processes improve. The original ImPACT Test is good for ages 12 and up. It requires approximately 40 minutes and is good for 2 years.

A computerized neurocognitive baseline test is one of several assessment tools that helps health professionals assess and treat your child if they do sustain a concussion.
