The difference between deep and a regular massage is just listening to the fascia that holds the muscles into place.
Most athletes like a deeper massage to get the lactic acid out. You should never be bruised from a massage. You can still get a firm pressure without causing you to hold your breathing. And get rid of the lactic acid that develops in the muscles.
My philosophy after doing this for 30 years is: “Less is More” It might take a bit longer to get through what ails you but it will last longer that a deep tissue massage.
