Potato - A food not tolerated well for the body

Where else is potato found in foods?


Potato as a body chemistry intolerance, represents about 60% of the population in my experience. Including white and sweet potato, enriched foods (thiamine, riboflavin, B12), non-whole grain products, most wheat products unless they are sprouted whole grain, most dairy - but the trick here, is that this category of person can actually have certain whole fat, un homogenized dairy mostly from sheep and goat, as long as it’s been tested to be clean of potato (a process that a Certified Practitioner can do),

Here are more words on a label that may constitute “potato” because of a manufacturing practice that does not have to be labelled or because they act as a really close analog in the body to potato and are therefore attempted by the body to be digested the same.  These are mostly found in packaged foods.

They include:

  • Baking soda
  • Baking powder
  • Yeast (cultured in potato or cane Sugar – a wise idea to keep out of your diet) - try sourdoughs or unleavened products instead.
  • Dextrose
  • Tapioca
  • Guar gum. 
  • Modified food starch
  • Hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP)
  • Many Vegetable broths and soups
  • MSG/natural flavoring

Here are more foods that are so closely related to potato in how they are digested, that they would upset the immune, metabolism and energy of a “Potato Intolerant” individual:

  • Jerusalem Articoke
  • Jicima
  • Kabuki Squash

TIP: If you ask at a restaurant, such as an Asian restaurant, if their food contains MSG, they may say no… but dig a little deeper and see if their food comes all pre seasoned with it, in which case the waiter may not even realize or know! I’ve tested this personally in a few restaurants and a “no we do not use MSG, turned into a YES, every meat and tofu comes pre seasoned with it”!  This means it would test positive for potato, as well as constitute a nerve toxin.


Try using whole grain organic spelt flour in place of all purpose or whole wheat flour, and use other whole food grains such as brown rice.  Almond or coconut flour recipes also tend to feel good for this category of person. At restaurants, you would feel better going grain free and opt for sauce on the side, as they love to fill condiments with these type of “potato positive” ingredients.

If you or a loved one is suffering from chronic sinusitis, even when you don’t have a cold, this is a major clue that you likely are eating a food that your body chemistry is not processing well and potato tends to be a big one in this complaint.  I have also seen a large percentage of clients with this intolerance, have symptoms as though they are having a bladder infection, despite urine tests constantly coming out normal.  This usually means there’s been a flare of inflammation in the bladder and possibly other areas, due to the immune systems response to the toxins, which the attempted breakdown of the food created.

My story, is that I was raised on potatoes, and I discovered over a decade ago, that I was intolerant to it.  It became very clear that it was the answer to why I was falling asleep whenever I left from visiting relatives after they had served me up some nice mini potatoes!  When being exposed to potato positive foods, my bladder doesn’t feel “right” and my sinuses plug right up.  I also discovered that it had set me up for chronic colds, bladder and throat infections as my immune system was “not Impressed” by the toxic buildup resulting from eating the wrong foods.
