Healthy and tasty apple recipes you've probably never tried.

Apples are a great fruit. They are loaded with fiber and vitamin C and packed with antioxidants. What more can be said about apples except that we love them and we can’t get enough of them. While we enjoy apple pie and apple turnovers, we thought it would be nice to see some recipes that were a bit different. Learn how to make the most of your apples with these eight healthy recipes that are sure to please.

Apple Kabob
For you grillers out there, this is a must for a Saturday BBQ. When everyone else is having burgers and hotdogs  try something a little more creative. This dish is as simple as it is good and will thrill even the pickiest of eaters. Load a skewer with a thick diced apple, vegetables (green or red pepper slices, red onion etc.) and pork. Repeat. Use a good cut of meat-boneless center cut are a favourite. Splash a few shakes of marinade (apple juice, honey and Worcestershire sauce) over the skewer and grill away!

Apple Salad
Nothing is easier (or healthier) than a salad with chunks of fresh apple, walnuts and cheese. Any type of green will do, but try to avoid iceberg as there is little nutritional content.

Fruit Salsa
Throw this together and dazzle your guests. Kiwi’s, apples, raspberries, strawberries, brown sugar (1 TBS),  fruit preserves (any flavor, 3 TBS). Mix thoroughly in a bowl, chill in the fridge for 15 minutes. Viola!

Winter Salad
Slight twist on traditional salad and great for holiday entertaining.  Toss together in a large bowl, romaine lettuce, swiss cheese, dried cranberries, peeled, cored and diced apple, cored and sliced pear and cashews. This salad is just delicious with a lemon poppy seed dressing.

Fruity Chicken Salad
Another twist on a traditional dish. Make chicken salad as you would normally but add 1/3 cup seedless green grapes, 1/3 cup golden raisins, 1 apple, peeled, cored and diced (Golden Delicious works best), ½ cup toasted, chopped pecans. For an extra special touch, try adding ½ TSP curry powder.

Apple Broccoli Salad
This salad is another eye catcher that tastes as good as it looks. Mix 1 ½ cups of low-fat mayonnaise, 2 TBS white vinegar, ½ TSP lemon juice, ¼ TSP salt. Mix in another bowl, 3 apples, peeled, cored, diced, 3 cups broccoli, ½ cup red onion and ½ cup dark raisins.Chill.

Grilled Cheese and Apple Sandwich
Try this unique take on a grilled cheese with a cup of your favorite soup. Just be sure to use tart apples and slice them very thin. This recipe works best with Monterey jack or Swiss cheese. Add a few sprinkles of cinnamon to each apple before placing between bread.

Applesauce Brownies
Now, I know what you are thinking, but honestly, this recipe is fabulous. However, the best part is that the end result is yummy and less fat than traditional brownie recipes. Mix 7 TBS flour, ½ cup cocoa, 2 egg whites, 1 egg, pinch salt, ¾ cup white sugar, 8 TBS applesauce, 1 ½ TSP vanilla and walnuts. Mix eggs, applesauce, sugar and vanilla. Add remaining ingredients and bake in greased pan at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Enjoy!
