Home remedies for winter beauty

The solution to your dry hair and chapped lips could be found right in your home.

Winter brings about problems that you don’t particularly have to deal with during the warmer seasons. The lack of moisture can lead to brittle and dry hair, skin and lips. You may find yourself spending obscene amounts of money in an effort to combat the effects that the cold weather can have on them. Purchasing moisturizing lotions, shampoos and conditioners can become costly. It also seems that no matter how much money a woman spends, she still can’t find anything to help her lips say moist.

Believe it or not, there are home remedies that can aid in relieving some of the effects that dry weather can have on all of the things you worked so hard to keep beautiful throughout the rest of the year. So, before you go spending wads of cash or maxing out your credit card, try some of the home methods first. You may find that they work just as well, if not better, than anything you can purchase in the store. Not to mention, they’re a heck of a lot cheaper!

Chapped and dry lips: The lack of humidity in the air during the winter causes the lips to become extremely sensitive. Lack of moisture will lead to cracked lips. These breaks in the surface of your lips leave them susceptible to the environment and its many infection causing bacteria. Try one of these home remedies to keep your lips soft:

  • Use butter or clarified butter on the lips before going to bed
  • Make a paste using honey and Vaseline and apply the lip “mask” for 15 minutes, use a cotton ball with warm water to remove it
  • Use slices of cucumber on your lips, the same as you would use on your eyes

Dry hair: Cold weather has the same effect on hair that it does on lips. The lack of moisture in the atmosphere causes the hair to dry out and become brittle. Using heat on the hair only causes more damage. Here are some things that you can try at home to keep your hair from being left out in the cold:

  • Beat 2 eggs with lemon juice and olive oil. Massage into the hair and scalp and allow the mixture 30 minutes to dry. This will condition the hair and treat split ends.
  • Create a conditioner using mayonnaise, lemon/lime juice and egg.
  • Use warm olive oil to give the hair a hot oil treatment. Saturate the hair and scalp with the oil and cover with a plastic cap. Allow to sit for ½ hour and rinse.
  • Mix avocado, egg and olive oil to make a deep conditioner

Dry Skin: Excessively dry skin is also a result of cold weather. Yet, there are things that can be done to aid in healing the cracked and dried out skin that the weather is leaving you with. Try one of these home remedies to get your skin silky smooth again:

  • Indulge in a warm glass of milk with 2 teaspoons of almond oil mixed in when you’re turning in for the night.
  • Use honey as a body conditioner and moisturizer before showering. Rub the honey onto your body and leave on for about 10 minutes.
  • Use a humidifier while you’re sleeping to replenish the moisture that the cold weather is snatching out of the air.

As you can see, there are different ways to replenish the moisture in your lips, hair and skin without breaking the bank or leaving the house. Although a few of them may seem a bit strange there’s no harm in trying. It could actually save you a few bucks. So, what are you waiting for…keep your beauty intact and your pockets too!
