Active Release Techniques ®

  • ART is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.

Pre-Event Massage

  • Consists of fast, short strokes to stimulate and activate the body's tissues for better performance. Kinesiology tape, aromatherapy, and muscle energy and active release techniques are often used in combination with pre-event treatments.

Post-Event Massage

  • Employs long, slow strokes that flush out the accumulated body's toxins and promotes general healing benefits to the recently over worked body. Hydrotherapy, moor mud wraps and aromatherapy are often used to promote recovery.

Triggers Point

  • A technique that involves applying of pressure to tender muscle tissue in order to relieve pain and dysfunction in other parts of the body. Trigger point treatment is performed in combination with traditional massage techniques.

Muscle Energy Technique

  • Muscle energy technique is based on the principle of reciprocal inhibition. A theory that explains that muscles on one side of a joint will always relax to accommodate the contraction of muscles on the other side of that joint when indirect pressure is applied. Muscle energy technique is ideal for addressing imbalances and muscle spasms and is often performed in combination with traditional massage techniques.

Aromatherapy

  • A full body treatment using a using a smooth, flowing styles promotes general relaxation, improves circulation and improves range of motion. This massage targets stress using essential oils. Oils can be custom made to address unbalanced emotions brought on by athletic activities or prepare the body for activity.

  • Injury Formula - Our infused arnica oil is beneficial to athletes suffering from a variety of injuries. Whether you're dealing with muscle fatigue, strains, sprains, bruises, dislocations, swelling due to fractures or chronic inflammation, this will help you.
  • Pre-Exercise Formula - Specifically designed to prepare athlete for a strenuous training session or an event. Our peppermint and rosemary combination increases alertness and improves circulation.
  • Post-Exercise Formula - Specifically designed to increase recovery between workouts and competition. Juniper Berry detoxifies and helps eliminate lactic acid from muscles; and Sweet Marjoram which helps relieve cramping in over-exerted muscles.

Hydrotherapy

  • Cold and heat applications are a modality used in combination with traditional massage techniques. Cold therapy can help decrease inflammation, whereas heat therapy will warm tissue thereby improving muscle pliability. Hydrotherapy is performed in combination with traditional massage techniques.

Injury Assessment

  • Our practitioners strive to provide the best care and also to manage the cases correctly right from the start. Injuries from sports are often complicated requiring the utmost attention so our accurate assessment allows for the most appropriate treatment.

Exercise Program Design

  • When you're an athlete, simply allowing time to heal following an injury is not enough. Massage Athletica offers sport-specific conditioning techniques and physical re-conditioning to help you return to pre-injury condition.

Kinesiology Taping

  • Kinesiology tape is fantastic for treating common sports injuries like shin splints, plantars and runner's knee. At Massage Athletica we use a specifically engineered product called Rocktape, which can increase endurance by promoting blood flow during an athletic event. Rocktape lifts the skin away from the muscle, which promotes blood flow. This means more oxygen and more lymph drainage, which helps remove lactic acid.

Myofascial Release

  • Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion.

Deep Muscle Therapy

  • The deep tissue massage therapy is a massage technique which is designed to realign the deep muscle layers and connecting tissues in painful, stiff joints. The massage treatment can sometimes cause initial discomfort, but this usually fades within a short period.

Joint Mobilization

  • Joint mobilization is a treatment technique used to manage musculoskeletal dysfunction. Mobilizations are used to restore joint motion that has been lost due to injury. Mobilizations are used when range of motion or mobility is lacking.

Injury Rehabilitation

  • Injury Rehabilitation treatments involve a variety of techniques. A comprehensive assessment is performed to determine specific injured structures. In addition to traditional massage techniques, hydrotherapy, active release techniques and moor mud packs are used to enhance your recovery.

Gait Analysis

  • Gait analysis is often used to diagnose chronic injuries related to gait abnormalities. Movement patterns while in motion can reveal important information about soft tissue restrictions. Gait analysis is important for anyone looking to improve economy or prevent injury.
