Horizon Family Medicine, a thirteen family physician clinic, is a dynamic new family medical practice located in Red Deer and Sylvan Lake Alberta. Both clinics offer booked appointments, same day walk-in patient visits and a shared electronic medical record (EMR) database integrated with Alberta Netcare. From time to time, a limited number of Horizon physicians may be accepting new patients.
Please note the Town of Sylvan Lake changed our clinic address from 70 Hewlett Park Landing to 65 Hewlett Park Landing. We have not moved; we are still in the same location beside Scott's No Frills. We simply needed an address separate from the No Frills for Canada Post mail and courier delivery.

The clinic is now open and will provide booked patient appointments as well as same day drop in walk-in patient visits. Clinic will be accepting new patients for a limited time.

Our goal is to provide an excellent clinical patient experience and top quality healthcare services. The clinic also utilizes a fully integrated electronic medical record (EMR) in order to best gather important medical history and provide a confidential medical record for our patients.

Dr. Katherine Atchison MD, CCFP, FCFP
Dr. Atchison was born and raised on a farm in southwest Saskatchewan. She graduated from medical school in Saskatoon (University of Saskatchewan) then completed a Family Medicine residency program at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary. She practiced in a small rural community in Montana for 3 years before moving to Red Deer in 1997, where she has been practicing since that time. As well as a full time family practice, Katherine is on the Sexual Assault Response Team. Katherine is married, has two sons and enjoys doing crafts, reading and gardening.
Dr. Raymond Comeau BMSc, MD, CCFP
Dr. Comeau graduated from University of Alberta in 1980 with MD, BMSc. He is a CCFP certified family physician with an interest in dermatology, infectious diseases and emergency medicine. Dr. Comeau and his wife Deryl have traveled to or worked in over 78 different countries and are associated with several overseas aide organizations.
Dr. Mark Darby MD, MSc, CCFP
Dr. Darby was raised in a rural community west of Innisfail, Alberta. He attended the University of Calgary for his undergraduate degree in Biology, his Masters Degree in Neuroscience and for his Medical Degree, graduating in 2002. He did a Rural Family Medicine Residency through the University of Alberta, training primarily in the Red Deer region. He has been practicing Family Medicine in Red Deer now for 6 years.
Dr. Brian Dembinski BSc, MD, CCFP
Dr. Dembinski was raised in Edmonton, Alberta. He graduated from the University of Alberta with an undergraduate degree in Pharmacology, followed by a Doctor of Medicine Degree. He completed his medical residency training in Family Medicine through the University of Calgary, where he worked primarily from his home base in Medicine Hat and surrounding towns. Since completing residency he has locumed in Southern Alberta and has recently made his home in Red Deer.
Dr. Emily Devereaux BSc, MD, CCFP
Dr. Devereaux was raised in Red Deer, Alberta. She graduated from the University of Calgary with a degree in Biological Sciences and then followed up by completing her Doctor of Medicine there. She returned to Red Deer for her medical residency through the Rural Alberta North Family Medicine Program through the University of Alberta. She is excited for the opportunity to start practicing family medicine in her home town starting in late summer 2011.
Dr. Lauralee Dukeshire BSc, MD, CCFP
Dr. Dukeshire was born in Kingston, Ontario and lived in ten different towns across four provinces before coming to Lacombe, Alberta as a teenager. She completed a Bachelor’s of Science at Canadian University College in Lacombe and her Medical Degree at the University of Alberta. From there, she completed a family medicine residency through Alberta Rural Family Medicine North - University of Alberta in 2006 and has been practising Family Medicine in the Red Deer area since.
Dr. Mandy Hyde BSc, MD, CCFP
Dr. Hyde was raised in Lacombe, Alberta. She graduated with an undergraduate degree in Biology from Canadian University College in Lacombe and then attended the University of Alberta to gain her medical degree in 2002. She completed her medical residency through the Rural Alberta North Family Medicine Program based in Red Deer in 2004. She has been practicing family medicine in the Red Deer area since completing her training. She has a special interest in maternity care.
Dr. John Julyan-Gudgeon MSc, MD
Dr. John Julyan-Gudgeon completed his undergraduate degree in Zoology at the University of Calgary and has been in Alberta ever since. He holds a Masters Degree in Neuroscience and graduated from University of Alberta's medical school and Family Medicine residency program in 2006. He has served as a physician for the Canadian Forces between 2006 and 2010. Now, he and his family call Red Deer their home.
Dr. Sereyrath Ngeth M.Sc, MD, CCFP
Dr. Ngeth grew up in Red Deer and attended Red Deer College before transferring to the University of Alberta. He completed his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and went on to complete a Master’s degree before entering medical school. He graduated from medical school in 2009 and did his residency training in Rural Family Medicine through the Rural Alberta South Program. After completion of his residency training, he worked in the rural towns of Alberta as a locuming physician. He is looking forward to working as a locum with Horizon Family Medicine.
Dr. Nav Rattan BSc, MD, CCFP Dip Sport Medicine
Dr. Rattan was raised in Red Deer, graduated from Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School and then attended the University of Alberta in Edmonton for his undergraduate Science Degree. He then went to San Francisco and Chicago to study Podiatric Medicine and Foot Surgery. Following that, he attended Medical School at the University of Calgary and completed training in Family Medicine in Edmonton. He has been practising medicine in Red Deer for the past 23 years focusing on Family Medicine, Sport Medicine, and providing consulting work in Athletic Injury, Foot Disorders, Foot Surgery, and Vasectomy Surgery.
Dr. Marci Wilson BSc, MD, CCFP
Dr. Wilson grew up in Southern Ontario and completed a Bachelor’s of Science at the University of Waterloo, graduate studies in Audiology, and in 2002 her Medical Degree at McMaster University. She completed a Rural Family Medicine Residency through the University of Alberta in 2004 and has been practising Family Medicine in the Red Deer area since.
Dr. John Ellis BSc, MD
Dr. Ellis was raised in Cape Town, South Africa. After completing high school, he spent some time in the military before completing a Bachelor's of Science and Medical Degree at Stellenbosch University. He practised medicine in Cape Town, doing family practice and Emergency Medicine. He arrived in Canada, working first in Saskatchewan before coming to Alberta. He has a strong interest in exercise as a preventative in modifiable diseases. Dr. Ellis has been practicing medicine in Red Deer for 11 years, with a focus on maternity care. He is excited to join the Horizon Team as of March 2014.
Martin Penninga (Business Manager)
Martin was raised in Kelowna, BC and completed his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Trinity Western University in 1995. Following graduation until 2004, he held administrative, management and finance positions at TWU, British Columbia Institute of Technology, and the University of Calgary. Over the last 7 years, he has co-owned and operated a local retail business and also managed the largest family medical clinic in Central Alberta.
All patients are required to produce a valid Provincial Health Card at the time of each visit.
