How long have you been thinking about leaving your current job? You know that you’re not happy there, but you’re waiting for a sign to tell you that it’s time to move on? Rest assured, you aren’t the only one going through this, there were others before and there will be others to come.
Many people find themselves wondering how they will know when its’ time to move on from one job to the next. Here are some signs that you can look for, to be certain:
1. When you first started your job and for a long time after, you performed at the best of your ability. If you find that lately, your job performance is slipping, it’s a clear sign that you are at the end of your rope in this position. You no longer care if your work is wonderful or not. This simply means that you no longer care about the job.
2. If you wake in the morning, on a work day and the first thing you say is, “Oh boy!!! Here we go again.” Clearly you have lost all interest in going to the office. It’s actually the last place in the world that you want to be. This isn’t something that you should have to guess about…you don’t want to be there!
3. On a professional level, if you know that there are no more advancement possibilities available to you and that’s what you want, what are you sticking around for? Don’t waste years in a position that you don’t want to be in. It’s time to start sending out your resume, in search of an ideal position. Or at least one that will lead to it.
4. The ultimate sign that it’s time to find a new job is when you are in a meeting and it sounds like Charlie Brown’s teacher is talking; no matter who is speaking. Not being able to focus on important aspects of business and no really caring, is a definite sign that your time on the job is coming to an end.
So many times, people get comfortable where they are in their professional lives and even when they are unhappy, they stay. Whether you are discontented or have just exhausted all of the possibilities in your current position, you know when it’s time for change. Maybe you need room to grow or more of a challenge. Whatever the reason may be, you have to do what’s best for you. Or you’ll look back and regret the time that you could have taken a chance and didn’t.
