Back pain? If you’re looking for a chiropractor to treat some of that pain, you’re in luck. According to the Canadian Chiropractic Association, there are more than 6,500 chiropractors in Canada – which means finding one should be pretty easy.

But with so many options, how do you choose the one that’s right for you? Start by listing your requirements in a chiropractor, which can include:

  • Location
  • Hours of service
  • Gender
  • Types of services offered (i.e.  is there a massage therapist on site? Other health professionals?)

Once you’ve listed your needs, ask your family, friends, co-workers or family doctor or other health care practitioners if they can recommend a good chiropractor. Next, try doing an Internet search on Health Local to find a chiropractor in your area. The chiropractor’s Gold Listing or website will have information (including website links) to help you determine if that chiropractor meets your requirements.

The good news is that you do not need a referral to see a chiropractor. A chiropractor is a primary contact health care provider – simply call one and make an appointment. Many provincial health care plans don’t cover this type of care, but many extended benefits plans do. Check with your benefits provider to see if you have coverage.
