How can I prevent hearing loss?
One of the best ways to prevent hearing loss is to go for regular ear cleanings to help prevent infection from forming and to ensure that everything is working as intended.
When it feels like your ears are dirty or have lots of wax build up, you might be inclined to twirl a cotton swab in there, but this can actually be harmful as it pushes wax further into the ear canal where it shouldn’t be. The wax is meant to stop dirt from entering your ear so removing it can actually be worse.
The ear does have a process of cleaning itself, aided by jaw movement, where any debris in the canal is dislodged and migrated outwards. Sometimes wax build up can prevent this last step or perhaps there’s more dirt inside than the natural cleaning process can get rid of. In this case, you would definitely want a professional to handle the cleaning so you don’t do any damage.
