Understand the difference between each!

When it comes to therapy options, there is osteopathy, chiro and physio. In order to make an informed decision to address your symptoms, it’s important to understand how these three treatments differ. We’ve outlined the difference between osteopathy, physiotherapy and chiropractic care.

Similarities Between Osteopathy, Physiotherapy and Chiropractic Care

All three can be used to get rid of tension in fascia, joints, tethered nerves and muscles to facilitate healing. Osteopathy, physiotherapy and chiropractic can all help you overcome injury and pain so that you can get back to living life on your terms. The other common thread between the three forms of treatments is that from diagnosis to treatment, practitioners are literally very hands on with a great deal of meticulous and precise touch.

Differences Between Osteopathy, Physiotherapy and Chiropractic

All these practitioners work with joints and the spine as well as with tissues, fluids, fascia and scars. Chiropractors and physiotherapists traditionally have a more specific area of treatment and combine hands on treatment techniques with education and focus on injury prevention. Physiotherapy is very much focused on the effects of pain and injury on function including daily activities and sports. Physiotherapists usually address these issues with specific exercise protocols for each condition.

When it comes to osteopathic care, where your pain is, or even what it is, isn’t really the issue. What’s important from the perspective of the person performing the treatment is the method for addressing and alleviating the restrictions that are triggering the problem. The approach for the other two therapy options, however, is different.

Physiotherapists and chiropractors sometimes use tools other than their hands to administer treatment, osteopathic therapists usually only use hands on treatments.

As you can see, there are some notable differences when looking at the three aforementioned therapy options. While the three treatment options are all different, they are all useful. And when conducted by a skilled professional, may help to alleviate pain and facilitate healing. All you need to do is choose the right one for your specific conditions.
