We hope you and the people you care about are in good health and managing well, given the new realities of life with COVID-19. Even though our doors are closed, our lights are very much on here at Shift Cognitive Therapy + Assessment, and we are working hard to continue providing you with the same quality, psychological services you have come to expect from us over the years.
We are responding to phone messages and emails daily because we understand that being able to count on your therapist is important in this time of so much uncertainty. We are also posting helpful information on how to cope on the Blog page of our website and our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram feeds.
Most importantly, we continue to offer therapy sessions using videoconferencing apps that you can access on your smartphone, tablet or computer. All connections are encrypted, ensuring therapist/client confidentiality. We can also conduct sessions by telephone if you are more comfortable with that. During these uncertain times, please know that our team is just one phone call or email away.
Please take care and remember, we’re all in this together.

Shift Cognitive Therapy + Assessment is a team of psychologists and counsellers in Oakville, ON. We specialize in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy(CBT) and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), depression and anxiety for children, teens and adults.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy & Emotion-Focused Therapy
The goal of cognitive behaviour therapy is to help individuals become aware of the thoughts and patterns of behaviour that keep them feeling stuck. Its focus is on the ‘here-and-now’ to help relieve current symptoms and address current problems.
Emotion-Focused Therapy is an approach to couples and family issues that focuses on identifying and correcting repetitive and dysfunctional patterns that leave people feeling alone and unsupported. EFT helps members of a couple or family to remain engaged with each other in order to better communicate what each really needs from the other.
