Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) originated over 2500 years ago in China. It is comprised of various components to form a complete medicine collectively. TCM involves multiple aspects, such as acupuncture and qigong exercise. Some of the therapies and diagnostic techniques used during your assessment and treatment may include the following.

  • Pulse Diagnosis - The pulse is used as a tool to help confirm an accurate Chinese medicine diagnosis. It accesses the physiological and pathological state of the client.
  • Chinese Dietary Therapy - Chinese dietary therapy classifies food as healing in terms of energetics, thermal nature, and effects on the organs. Food acts as a foundational medicine. TCM dietary recommendations are based on various therapeutic components.
  • Moxibustion Therapy - Moxibustion is a form of heat therapy where dried mugwort (moxa) is burned on or near certain points or locations of the body. Moxa provides warmth to the 12 primary channels restoring the free flow of qi and blood, expels cold and stagnation helps regulate menstruation, reproductive issues, arthritis, digestive disorders, pain relief, ease the fetus, turn a breech baby, and support the immune system.
  • Cupping Therapy - Cupping is a very safe and effective treatment modality that improves blood circulation, and lymphatic flow in the body. It is a great tool to help with pain relief and has no demonstrable negative effects on the body when practiced by a properly informed practitioner.
  • Tongue Diagnosis - The tongue is a very important component in TCM diagnosis, indicating a person’s overall harmony or disharmony. Observing the tongue involves inspecting the tongue body, color, shape, coating, and hypoglossal veins. The findings help with the overall picture of the analysis.
  • Tuina ("Twee-Naw") - The term tuina/ tuina (pronounced "twee naw"), which literally means "pinch and pull," is a form of Chinese manipulative therapy. Tui Na may benefit multiple disorders including insomnia, constipation, headaches, migraines, irritable bowel syndrome, premenstrual syndrome, carpal tunnel, stiff neck, sore back, sciatica, and emotional problems. It can also help disorders related to the digestive, respiratory, and reproductive systems.
  • Electro-acupuncture - Electroacupuncture has been shown to be especially beneficial in cases with chronic qi stagnation or where the qi is difficult to stimulate. According to Chinese literature, especially good results are expected from the electro-acupuncture treatment of neurological diseases, including chronic pain, spasm, and paralysis.
  • Medical Qigong - Qigong is the skilful practice of gathering, circulating, and applying life-force energy. Some common ailments medical qigong has been beneficial for our mental, physical, emotional stress, high blood pressure, headaches, anxiety or depression.

Reflexology

Reflexology is the natural massage practice to relieve pain, tension, stress and increase relaxation in the body by stimulating the reflex areas on the foot. This treatment helps people who have diabetes, high blood pressure, poor circulation and betters sleep quality.

Reflexology has also shown effective results in decreasing the discomforts in migraines, back pain, hormonal imbalance, digestive problems, and stress-related conditions.

Herbal Supplements

Herbs have been used for centuries as plant therapy dating back to 13,000 – 25,000 BC where the first recording is depicted in the Lascaux caves in France.

Today, according to the world health organization (WHO) herbs are still used by approximately 80% of the world’s population in some aspect as a source of primary healthcare. And, in North America herbal usage has increased by nearly 70%.

We only work with herbs that are sustainably farmed, seasonally harvested, pure and high potency. All of the herbs we recommend are Health Canada approved. This attention to quality enables clients to experience excellent results, naturally.

Reiki

Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is an ancient Japanese healing system that stands for “universal life force energy” developed in 1922 by Doctor and Buddist Monk, Dr. Mikao Usui. Reiki is gentle and non-invasive, healing energy comes through the practitioner's hands to the client and helps release blockages to help restore balance, promote relaxation and healing. Benefits of Reiki may include:

  • Stress reduction and invokes relaxation. Improves sleep.
  • Encourages harmony of the physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional levels.
  • Helps to cleanse and clear emotions, such as grief.
  • Releases emotions attached to a symptom and assists in healing the ailment.
  • Enhances learning, memory, and mental clarity.
  • Relieve pain, stomach upset, menstrual issues, and much more.
  • Helps speed recovery from injury and surgery.
  • Strengthens the immune system.
  • Compliments medical treatments and other therapies. For example, Chemo-therapy patients who received Reiki noticed a marked decrease in side effects from treatment.
  • Promotes a feeling of being grounded and centred.

Victoria Pumphrey, R.Ac, R.H.N.

Victoria’s passion has been natural health since her early twenties.

For as long as Victoria could remember she had issues with digestive intestinal problems and fatigue to hormonal disturbances including PMS, dysmenorrhea, and menorrhagia. While attending nutrition school, she learned that many of her symptoms could be helped by natural medicine as, medically, there was nothing wrong with her, but she felt terrible all the time.

This is when Victoria started seeing a Natural Health Practitioner specializing in iridology, nutrition, and herbs. Feeling changes in as little as two days, this was the start of Victoria’s healing journey. She knew she wanted to continue learning and be able to help others.

Later Victoria had frozen shoulder and nothing seemed to help. A friend recommended acupuncture and within three sessions she was 100% better.

Victoria was so fascinated she knew she would enroll to become an Acupuncturist one day. After years of hard work and dedication, she now brings this wonderful therapy to you.

Victoria is a member of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario (CTCMPAO) registration #6024, and the Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Association of Canada (CMAAC). Her background in education includes the following.

  • Facial Rejuvenation, SSC Acupuncture Institute, Toronto ON.
  • NADA Protocol, Auricular Acupuncture, part of the Acupuncture Program at SSC.
  • Registered Acupuncturist, Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine Academy (formerly SSC The Shiatsu School of Canada and Acupuncture Institute), Toronto ON.
  • Reiki Practitioner, Usui Lineage, trained by Masters Robert & Theresa Thomas, and Chantal Garneau.
  • Certified Reflexologist, The International Institute of Reflexology (I.I.R.), Ingham method.
  • Iridology Practitioner, trained by Diane McLaren, Mississauga ON.
  • Registered Holistic Nutritionist, Canadian School of Natural Nutrition (CSNN), Mississauga ON.
  • Diploma, Business Management Studies, George Brown College, Toronto ON.
