Cheryl has been working as a counsellor/psychotherapist for 17 years. She completed her training at the University of Western Ontario and has worked for a London community agency and in private practice for that time. Cheryl has a Masters of Education (Counselling) degree and an Honors Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. This education has given Cheryl a strong theoretical knowledge which she uses in her counselling practice.
Cheryl's work at a London community agency has allowed her to develop her knowledge and expertise in working with a diverse clientele on a wide range of challenges. There is no issue too small or too big. Counselling can help with any life challenge. She has developed a broad knowledge of community resources available for individuals and families.
Cheryl is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). This is an approach used to help individuals work through difficult emotions and beliefs, as well as develop and build a stronger repertoire of internal resources.
Cheryl is a Registered Psychotherapist and a member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.
Cheryl uses a multi-facted approach to counselling focusing on what the individual client needs to resolve their issues and life concerns. This may include such techniques as talk therapy, dreamwork, journalling, cognitive-behavioural techniques, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), and meditation and relaxation. The focus is always on reducing emotional stress and difficult thoughts as well as building coping strategies and developing a stronger approach to life.
Cheryl uses a gentle, caring and yet sometimes challenging approach in working with clients. Clients will find understanding, compassion and support in their counselling sessions which will foster and strengthen their own understanding in life as well as their unique capacities.
Cheryl works primarily with women in the areas of relationships, parenting, and life transitions.
Results that can be achieved through working with Cheryl include: a stronger sense of yourself, more clearly defined life values and goals, a healthier lifestyle, fewer negative feelings and thoughts, a more positive outlook on life, less stress, and more meaningful relationships in your life.
