Dr. Kohan is a psychologist, registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario, and licensed for clinical and forensic practice with adult individuals. She has experience with a variety of clinical presentations, including (but not limited to) problems with mood, anxiety, stress, post-traumatic stress, chronic pain, substance abuse, and personality. She provides assessment and treatment services to individuals referred by other health providers and those who self-refer.
She also works routinely with third party payers such as WSIB, Health Canada, Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, Veterans’ Affairs, and motor vehicle insurers.
Dr. Kohan graduated from Lakehead University with a Ph.D. in clinical psychology in 2002, and has operated her own practice in Sault Ste. Marie since 2006. She also works as a psychologist at the Algoma Treatment & Remand Centre, in Sault Ste. Marie delivering assessment and treatment services to male and female incarcerates with violent offending and substance abuse profiles. Dr. Kohan has taught university and college courses in a wide variety of psychology sub disciplines.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is one of the short-term form of therapy that focuses on getting treatment from strengthening adult relationships, bonding and attachments. The therapist and the patient will both look at ways for the patient's relationships to be more secured and eventually lead to healthier and more positive directions in life.
Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) is a type of cognitive-behavioural therapy in which it aims to effectively identify and be able to change the bad thinking patterns. And it aims to achieve the positive result that leads to behavioral changes. It is used by therapists to be able to treat destructive behavior such as suicide and borderline personality disorders.
A mood disorder is being described as having an emotional state or mood that is disturbed and/or inconsistent to a person’s life circumstances and it hinders one’s ability to normally function. A person can be extremely sad, happy, empty, excited or irritable. It is also described as the big switch from feeling depressed to being excessively happy.
A personality disorder is a differed way of thinking, feeling and behaving where it is totally different from social or cultural expectations that might cause problems, distress, and trauma that can last for a lifetime.
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health disorder that is being continuously triggered by experiencing or witnessing a very traumatic event. Some of the symptoms might include event flashbacks, nightmares or having severe anxiety.
