A very basic type of cleaning which removes any plaque, tartar/calculus and stain present on the teeth.
Scaling and periodontal care:
A more in-depth cleaning, which removes any plaque, tartar/calculus and debris in between the gums and the teeth.
As a protective instinct, the gums shy away from any bacteria along the root surface. As a result, the gum “lets go” of it’s attachment to the tooth itself; which leads to the tooth having less support; which then leads to the mobility of the teeth.
The Fix: Clean the root surface- getting rid of the bacteria between the gum and root. The gum then reattaches back to the root surface, supporting the tooth structure once again.

This is the process of using carbamide peroxide and/or hydrogen peroxide to remove stains, or other discolouration, from the tooth surface; giving the teeth a whiter look.
This is a preventative procedure, usually placed on children’s adult molars. Just as “varnish protects wood”, dental sealants protect molars with “deep grooves”. We flow the plastic material, in a liquid form, into the deep grooves, then shine a curing light on this tooth, turning the liquid plastic into a protective hard layer. The result is, a molar with shallow grooves, in which the toothbrush can easily keep clean.
Fabrication of mouth guards:
The increase in concussion rates, associated with high impact sports, such as hockey and football, led to claims by dentists regarding the use, and effectiveness, of athletic mouthguards in reducing concussions.
When a player gets “hit” or “crashes into the boards”, their bottom jaw can be slammed against their top teeth, increasing their chances of a concussion. Wearing a form fitting mouthguard, dissipates and/or absorbs the force of this upward blow to the jaw.
Mouthguards are fabricated in the clinic. Come in for a dental impression, and your newly fabricated mouth guard can be ready for you the next day.
