Contact lenses are an option for most people. From the age of approximately 16 up to almost any age, contacts correct hyperopia (farsightedness), myopia (nearsightedness), astigmatism, and presbyopia (needing reading glasses after age 40).
If you are a new contact lens wearer you will require a contact lens fit which is performed by Dr.Bense and Gary Gillard (contact lens practitioner). In most cases you will be supplied with a free trial pair of lenses to try for a period of typically 2 weeks and then you will have the option to purchase lenses if all is well.

Spectacle Lens Options
Everybody over the age of 40 starts to have difficulty reading small print. This is not a disease but a natural ageing process of the eye. The average patient will use either prescription reading glasses, drug-store readers, monovision contact lenses or bifocals. These are all fine options however in today’s technological world most of work with computers, we may need a specialty lens in order to cope with hours of near work. Traditional bifocals, monovision contacts, drug-store readers and prescription readers give no range of vision, meaning that the computer screen may be clear however objects slightly farther or closer than the screen will be out of focus. This is where specialty lenses come in. These lenses have slightly different prescriptions throughout the lens, which will give you a comfortable and clear range of vision…making them ideal for most office situations, or any situation in which you work at close objects for extended periods of time. Please ask Dr. Bense or one of the staff regarding these lenses.
Sunglasses
At Bense optical we offer a wide variety of sunglasses. Some brands include Gucci, Rayban, Nine West, Giorgio Armani, Liz Claiborne, Carrera, Maui Jim and more. Sunglasses may have slight tints typically for style, or they may have multiple coatings such as U.V protection, anti-reflection and polarisation. Polarized sunglasses will give you the best quality of vision. They block glare and harmful U.V light, which can affect your quality of vision and also cause pre-mature cataracts and macular degeneration.
