Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy is soft tissue manipulation of the body and one of the oldest recognized forms of healing. It involves a variety of techniques to help prevent, develop, maintain, or rehabilitate physical function or relieve pain. It is a clinically-oriented form of treatment that can help with many health conditions stemming from muscular dysfunction, overuse injuries, and many chronic pain syndromes.

Osteopathy is an advanced form of manual therapy. Our osteopath is able to improve position, mobility and function of the tissues that are most limited with hands on techniques. Often people come for pain related issues, but patients find that many other health issues can be resolved with osteopathy because of the whole body approach.

Osteopathy is based in anatomy and structure and involves precise palpation and assessment. It involves looking at all the systems and structures within the body to determine the root cause of pain or dysfunction. Osteopathy holds the belief that the body has the ability to heal itself but sometimes needs to be “unblocked” to start the healing process.

Naturopathic medicine is a distinct primary health care system that blends modern scientific knowledge with traditional and natural forms of medicine. The naturopathic philosophy is to stimulate the healing power of the body and treat the underlying cause of disease. Symptoms of disease are seen as warning signals of improper functioning of the body, and unfavourable lifestyle habits. Naturopathy emphasizes disease as a process rather than as an entity.

Treating both acute and chronic conditions, naturopathic treatments are chosen based on the individual patient – their physiological, structural, psychological, social, spiritual, environment and lifestyle factors. In addition to diet and lifestyle changes, natural therapies including botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, hydrotherapy, homeopathy, naturopathic manipulation and traditional Chinese medicine/acupuncture, may also be used during treatments.

Homeopathy is a system of medicine based on the philosophy that “like cures like,” or “similar must be cured by similar.” The remedy must match the patient’s symptoms on all levels for the remedy to be considered “similar.” When the remedy matches the patient’s condition perfectly, the remedy is said to be the “simillimum.” This is the remedy that will produce complete healing.

Homeopathy’s miracle lies in its ability to treat the mental and emotional body and physical disease in tandem. As a result, homeopathy is truly holistic. While physical disease symptoms can be alleviated without healing the underlying mental and emotional disturbance, inevitably, the unhealed emotional pain will reappear on the physical level, sometimes in a more severe form.

Nutritional Counselling

Nutritional counselling is based on assessment and recommendations of the individual person’s needs. Nutritional counseling involves balancing the body’s systems so the body has the opportunity to heal itself. The Nutritionist guides healthy eating choices until they become healthy habits. The Nutritionist is also skilled to address issues that may be stemming from toxins or a PH imbalance within the body.

Custom Made Orthotics

Once your Family Doctor diagnosis you with a condition and prescribes orthotics, a biomechanical exam will be performed by our Certified Pedorthist. We specialize in the fabrication of custom made orthotics, as well as modifying and determining the optimal fit of orthopedic footwear. Orthotics can be designed to help with a range of conditions including:

  • Arthritis;
  • Diabetes;
  • Plantar fasciitis (Heel pain);
  • Bunion deformities;
  • Metatarsalgia;
  • Achilles tendonitis

After our Pedorthist performs the biomechanical gait analysis, patients will be cast by either using plaster bandage or our CAD/CAM Technology system. Both methods provide a three dimensional, subtalar neutral, semi-weight bearing position resulting in a completely custom cast of each foot in a corrective position. The orthotics will then be fabricated using materials that best suit the patients’ foot type.

Bowen Therapy

Bowen Therapy is a system of moves that challenge soft tissue, releases congestion and stimulates energy flow, it relieves pain and inflammation and has an effect on the bodies innate ability to heal itself. Bowen therapy relieves the body’s reactive patterns to injury, pain and misalignment through a series of relaxing and gentle moves on specific points on the body. The movements are composed of a challenge to a body of muscle, tendon or nerve. The release of the tension vibrates through the surrounding nerves. One of the most unique aspects of Bowen therapy is the “pauses” between the sets of Bowen moves. The “pauses ” enables the body time to respond. The treatment can be performed through clothing making it easy for people in severe pain. The gentleness of the treatment allows for a deep sense of relaxation which acts on the body’s autonomic nervous system, which creates homeostasis at a cellular level. Through this resetting of the autonomic nervous system, and while in a profound state of relaxation, the body is freed to find its own natural balance.

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy involves very subtle manipulation on the cranial bones. Some of the many things Craniosacral therapy can help with include:

  • Headaches and migraines;
  • TMJ dysfunction;
  • Sinus problems;
  • Dizziness;
  • Anxiety;
  • Learning disabilities;
  • Infantile disorders;
  • The body’s ability to heal

With Craniosacral Therapy, our therapist attempts to normalize the function and mobility of the cranial bones and those of the pelvis. Restoring this relationship has a profound effect on the entire body as all neural innervation stems between the head and sacrum. The therapy itself is very gentle and relaxing, often patients find themselves dozing off during treatments.

Far-Infrared Sauna

This sauna uses far-infrared radiant heat (FIR). It is a form of light not visible to the human eye that can be felt as heat. Unlike conventional saunas that need to heat the air, far-infrared sauna heat warms the body directly though direct light conversion. The infrared sauna allows for the heat to penetrate into the body quicker and have greater therapeutic effects. The heat increases circulation to promote oxygen and nutrients in the blood to nourish damaged tissues. The skin is an organ that the body is able to eliminate toxins from. Improving blood flow and eliminating toxins can help with many different health conditions including weight loss, muscle tension, chronic pain conditions, and skin conditions. It also helps to boost the immune system and provides a deep sense of relaxation.

Hypnosis allows you to make the changes you want in the privacy of your own mind. Hypnosis is a mental receptiveness to suggestion.

Our certified consulting hypnotist works with the largest sections of your consciousness (the subconscious and unconscious) to bypass the filtering mechanism in the brain, which may be stopping you from accepting new perceptions and beliefs based on new understanding. By doing so, you can establish acceptable selective thinking which redirects your focus. Often this helps everyday people solve everyday problems. Hypnotists a can use direct suggestion, intuitive work, regression and other techniques to help you “remap” a new mind.

Hypnosis is recognized as an important and rapid method of helping people with everyday problems such as:

  • Stress;
  • Performance;
  • Fears;
  • Weight;
  • “Bad” habits;
  • School;
  • Self-Confidence;
  • Sleep

Hot Stone Massage

Hot Stone massage uses heated, soft rocks specially positioned over the body in conjunction with massage using the hot stones. The heat is able to penetrate deep into the muscles; a truly relaxing experience.

Reiki Therapy

Reiki is a natural healing system that accesses “Universal Life Force” or “Chi”. Reiki can be beneficial in alleviating stress, chronic pain relief / management as well as being effective in balancing the energy centres or chakras. Reiki therapy is a gentle and nurturing experience. A reiki session lasts one hour and the client remains fully clothed. A very light touch is used.

Visceral Manipulation

Derived from osteopathy, the therapist manually manipulates the organs or viscera to restore normal health and function to the tissues. Visceral manipulation helps in cases of scar tissue and adhesions resulting from surgery, disease, physical or emotional trauma. The organs can sometimes refer pain to other areas. The health of the entire body is dependent on the function and health of the organs.
