Naturopathic Medicine:

  • Naturopathic medicine is a distinct primary health care system that blends scientific knowledge with traditional and natural forms of medicine.
  • A naturopathic doctor is a primary care practitioner that seeks to restore balance to a person’s health by emphasizing the healing power of nature and focus on addressing the root causes of illness. Treatments are individualized for each and every person.
  • Naturopathic doctors can also complement and enhance health care professionals. They cooperate with other branches of medical science and refer patients for diagnosis or treatment when necessary.
  • In Ontario, naturopathic doctors must have an undergraduate education, then graduate from an accredited naturopathic institution and pass their professional licensing exams before practicing. Naturopathic doctors are regulated in Ontario.

  • The key principle that defines and connects all of Chinese medicine is that of Qi (chee), or vital energy.  The Qi of all organs must be in balance, neither too active nor too dormant, for a person to be healthy.  The Qi of the body’s organs and systems are all connected in meridians or channels that lie just under the skin.  A Naturopathic Doctor will use Eastern herbs and acupuncture to assist the body in regulating the Qi and achieving balance.  Acupuncture is the use of very thin needles (as thin as a strand of hair) which are inserted into specific meridian points.  The practice of acupuncture has been around for over two thousand years and has proven to be very effective especially for pain relief, fertility, and chronic illness.

  • Dr. Natalie will assess your health concerns and perform a physical exam. She may recommend certain diagnostic tests in order to determine the root cause of your health problems. Most of these tests are an extra charge. They may be covered by OHIP if requested by your family physician. Some may be covered by your extended health insurance plan.
