About Burlington Dental Centre

Dr. Stephen Tannis opened the Burlington Dental Centre in February 2006 after spending 12 years practicing as a general dentist at a prominent Toronto Dental Clinic. We provide dental care for your youngest from the age of 3 and also orthodontic care for children and adults. Burlington Dental Centre is located in the city of Burlington, Ontario.

Since Burlington Dental is a "one-stop shop" family oriented dental practice, many Burlington, Oakville, Toronto and Mississauga families have already been patients of Dr. Tannis for a number of years. We are proud to have served their dental needs from day one.

Kindly call Robyn at (905) 637-9559 who will be pleased to answer any questions.

Our new and ultra-modern dental facility can correct a wide variety of so-called “permanent” dental problems:

  • Missing teeth, gaps between teeth, general bite dysfunction
  • Chipped, cracked or worn teeth
  • Unsightly, stained, or washed-out fillings
  • Permanently stained or discolored teeth
  • Crooked or crowded teeth

Burlington Dental Centre has embraced many advanced technologies right from the beginning, including Logic Tech's electronic charting, thus saving time and space. Burlington Dental Centre also uses Logic Tech’s electronic document management module. This reduces clutter and offers the staff the advantage of having all the patient’s information right at their fingertips. No running to the filing cabinet for medical history forms or other data. Everything is right in the electronic patient file.

Burlington Dental Centre has also introduced high tech wall mounted monitors which display digital x-rays and intra-oral photos for patients to view while they are in the chair.

The images help explain and schedule necessary procedures more effectively. When the digital x-rays and intra-oral photos are combined with the treatment plan, appointments can be broken down into phases.

We can then consult with the patient and print out a plan that makes both dental and financial sense.

Burlington Dental Centre is equipped with modern apparatus and very experienced dental personnel which helps to minimize your time for scheduled procedures. Feel free to discuss any Cosmetic Dentistry needs or ideas to improve your smile.

If necessary, Burlington Dental Centre provides Implant Dentistry.

Popular teeth whitening is also provided at the Burlington Dental Centre with our state of the art Zoom! technology equipment.

We also accept all Insurance plans. Visa, Master Card and Debit are payment methods. Payment plans are also provided.

Our Services:

Even a subtle change in your smile helps you to project an image of self-confidence and high personal esteem. When you feel good about yourself, it shows in your appearance.

Today's advanced techniques and materials can make a real difference, and the skill, experience, and commitment of our practice — using a unique combination of science and artistry — can literally redesign your smile.

Extractions:

  • You and Dr. Tannis may determine that you need a tooth extraction for any number of reasons. Some teeth are extracted because they are severely decayed; others may have advanced periodontal disease, or have broken in a way that cannot be repaired. Other teeth may need removal because they are poorly positioned in the mouth (such as impacted teeth), or in preparation for orthodontic treatment.
  • The removal of a single tooth can lead to problems related to your chewing ability, problems with your jaw joint, and shifting teeth, which can have a major impact on your dental health.
  • To avoid these complications, in most cases, Dr. Tannis will discuss alternatives to extractions as well replacement of the extracted tooth.

Fillings:

  • We are a mercury-free practice. However, many people still have silver/mercury fillings in their mouths from years past. These fillings are not particularly pleasing to the eye, and we know that by unavoidable design, silver/mercury fillings ultimately result in a weaker tooth structure. Porcelain inlays and Tooth Colored Restorations (onlays) create fillings that are not only beautiful (or unnoticeable) but also add strength to weakened teeth. These restorations are esthetically pleasing and very strong thanks to new bonding technologies.

Sealants:.

  • Preventive measure to decrease the chance of decay on the biting surfaces of your chewing teeth. Sealants are a simple procedure, placed by the Dental Hygienist, in which a tooth-colored acrylic "coating" is painted onto the surface of the tooth. This effectively "seals" the deep grooves acting as a barrier, protecting enamel from plaque and acids.
  • Sealants protect the depressions and grooves of your teeth from food particles and plaque that brushing and flossing can't reach.
  • Easy to apply, sealants take only a few minutes to seal the grooves of the molars. Sealants hold up well under the force of normal chewing and can last several years before a reapplication is needed.
  • It is highly recommended for children when their first permanent molar erupts, around the age of 6 years. Available for adults as well if needed.

Veneers:

  • Porcelain veneers are thin shells of ceramic that bond directly to the front surfaces of the teeth. They are an ideal choice for improving your smile and have become increasingly popular due to their simplicity and versatility.
  • Placing custom veneers requires a high degree of technical skill as well as attention to cosmetic detail. We place veneers routinely, and design each case individually to match and enhance the characteristics of each patient’s smile.

Bonding:

  • Bonding is an alternative to veneers, and can be used as a restorative procedure for teeth that are chipped, cracked, discolored or misarranged.
  • The bonding procedure can often be completed in a single office visit, and can improve the appearance of a tooth significantly. However, since the plastic resin used is not as strong as your natural tooth enamel, it is more likely to stain, chip or break than natural teeth. Bonding typically lasts three to five years before need of repair.

Dental Implants:

  • Implant-supported replacement teeth look, feel and function like natural teeth. For patients, dental implants provide comfort, convenience and confidence. For dentists, dental implants provide patient satisfaction, enhanced reputations and more stimulation… as well as increased revenue opportunities.

Whitening (Bleaching):

  • It’s safe, quick, and inexpensive. Just let us know at any appointment if you would like to begin bleaching. You can lighten your upper teeth only or both the upper and lower.
  • In only a day or two, your custom bleach trays will be ready for you to pick up at our office. We provide you with a special bleaching agent that you put into the clear splints. With only a small amount of time of wear per day, our special bleaching agent deduces stains on the surfaces of your theeth without altering tooth structore or existing dental work. When your teeth reach the desired brightness, only occasional treatment is needed to maintain your new smile. We’ll want to take “after” photos at your next appointment.

Bridges:

  • All of your teeth play an important role in speaking, chewing and in maintaining proper alignment of other teeth. Tooth loss doesn’t necessarily have to occur as you age, but if you do lose teeth, they must be replaced to maintain proper function of your mouth. Fortunately, there are options for correcting tooth loss.

Crowns:

  • If a tooth is damaged or of poor quality, a new ceramic crown is probably the best solution. Installation is fast. The end result is fantastic.
  • The all-ceramic Procera crown has many advantages over traditional crowns. Besides its high esthetic qualities, the function and longevity of the crown is excellent as well.

Dentures:

  • Complete and Partial Dentures
  • Implant retained Overdentures
  • Immediate Dentures

Orthodontics:

       Invisalign

  • A clear alternative - By using a series of clear removable aligners, Invisalign straightens your teeth right before your eyes. Change them about every two weeks, and your teeth will move—little by little, week by week—until they have moved to the final position your orthodontist or dentist has prescribed. Comfortable to wear, our aligners are also removable so you can eat, drink, brush, and floss as usual.
  • Less treatment time - A typical Invisalign case takes about a year from start to finish. You’ll see your doctor every month or two to see how you’re progressing. Every few visits, you’ll be given additional aligners to continue your treatment. Commonly, the number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but treatment time and the number of aligners will vary from case to case.
  • Invisible. And comfortable - Invisalign is a virtually invisible solution. So you won’t draw undue attention to your mouth while in treatment. In fact, virtually no one will know you’re wearing them unless you tell. Preventive Oral Hygiene:

      Tooth Decay Prevention

  • During a preventive care visit, our dentist or dental hygienist will examine your teeth for signs of decay.
  • The Dental Hygienist, who specializes in the cleaning and maintenance of teeth and gums, will remove any tartar, hardened plaque, also known as calculus, that has accumulated on your teeth.

      Scaling

  • This process involves cleaning the crown of the tooth and below the gum line where plaque is often trapped.
  • Our Dental Hygienist will polish your teeth after they are scaled. Children under 18 years of age will have fluoride applied to their teeth at the end of their visit.

Home Care and Proper Brushing Techniques

  • At the end of a preventive care appointment, your dentist or hygienist will instruct you to follow proper home care and brushing techniques. If required, your dentist will also perform a final examination before you leave.
