There are 26 bones in the human foot…usually. The best thing that we can do to protect them from wear and tear is to use them regularly, the old adage “use it or lose it” is true in this case. Our feet are meant to be used and used a lot!
Simply going for a half hour to one hour brisk walk 3 to 7 days a week will keep your feet in tip top shape, and you too. When we start to over use or abuse them, that’s when we often run into problems unless we take the time to strengthen them before. Stretch, strengthen and use them and they’ll serve you well all your life. I had developed a pain in the ball of my right foot after walking several miles when my bike had a flat and I had to push it home.
I tried all sorts of modifications to my orthotics and shoes which worked…sort of. What fixed the problem completely was a simple exercise that only took about a minute twice a day. I learned about it from one of my clients that trains people how to fix issues with simple little exercises.
