To introduce that, we need first to remind that in Canada (except Quebec) and the states, we are named officially Osteopathic Manual Practitioner (D.O.M.P.), Osteopath D.O. being reserved for MD’s. An osteopath is a humble health therapist, most often physiotherapist, who wanted to address the reasons of patient’s issues, not only the symptoms anymore.
We use different tests and techniques to find out, or to hope to find out, what is the primary issue what caused the condition and adjust it; then the Healthy Body should be able to balance the whole system.
The perfect health balance, named homeostasis, makes all the systems, vascular, chemistry, mechanic, emotional, neurological … are at their perfect level. Osteopathy is part of what helps the Healthy Body to find these balances through our holistic approach.
Another definition of Healthy Body balance is “adaptation”, humans have actually a big faculty to adapt, that’s why we survived since so long (Darwin saying) and osteopathy is helping the Healthy Body to stay in adaptation or to come back from compensation before to start decompensation and real sickness.
