Matt has spent over a decade working with folks of all ages on the healing journey of relationship with themselves, others, and with nature through rites of passage and connection-based mentoring in the wild world. Matt takes his rich experience and connection to a lineage of nature-connection practice and blends it with a fresh and creative perspective on therapeutic counselling, collaborating with his clients to create a container of support based on restoring and reorienting to the relationships in a client’s life for greater health, happiness, and a deeper sense of fulfillment.
He is skilled at supporting those who: - are engaged in life transitions or threshold experiences - find themselves at a loss for meaning and purpose have experienced a significant event, loss, or life change that causes them to question who they are, how and where they fit in/belong - have had a realization of unhelpful patterns playing out in their lives that they want to shift - are struggling in their self esteem and negative thinking about the self - are challenged by addictions/compulsions - desire a deeper connection to nature in support of their health and well-being
Hailing from Chicago originally, Matt has been extensively immersed in the Deep Nature Connection and Cultural Repair mentoring model through the Wilderness Awareness School in Washington state, as well as in a current reciprocal relationship under the mentorship of an Indigenous family lineage of medicine. Matt completed his studies in therapeutic counselling with the Orca Institute in 2022.
Matt has a general counselling practice supporting kids, teens, families, couples, and adults. He offers counselling services in-person at Madrona, online, as well as outdoors.
Matt has lived on Salt Spring for 4 years working as a well-loved mentor of the Wolf Kids program at the Wisdom of the Earth Wilderness School where he also co-leads their adult immersion program.
