Not a fan of cardio?

I don’t like cardio — how can I lose weight?

Many people don’t like traditional cardio exercises either because of boredom (running on a treadmill or using a stairclimber can become monotonous as the scenery never changes) or because it causes pain or discomfort in the joints. For others, running outdoors may not be an option and cardio equipment can be expensive to buy and space consuming. However, there are other options.

One of the best methods of losing weight is to use resistance training. Many exercises involving large muscle groups can burn large amounts of calories, strengthen muscles and bones and improve cardio fitness. Another benefit of resistance training is that as your muscle mass increases, your metabolism rises. This causes your Healthy Body to burn more calories while at work, rest or play. You will also experience better motor control and increased strength, making the chores in day to day life that much easier.

Try this simple routine that can be done anywhere – at the gym, home, work and it can be done with no weights or a pair of light weight dumbbells as your strength increases.

  • Squat   6 reps
  • Deadlift    6 reps
  • Reverse Lunge   6 reps
  • Jump Squat   6 reps
  • Squat and Press   6 reps
  • Side Lunge  6 reps

Repeat the circuit for 6 rounds total (36 reps of each exercise).

Try this routine for a month and watch the new slimmer, toner you appear!
