Guided Imagery Exercise
Imagine yourself in the most beautiful English garden. It just rained 30 minutes ago so the flowers still have small droplets of water on them. You can smell the wonderful fragrance of the flowers and the freshness of the rain. There are so many vibrant colours of flowers and everything looks sparkling and new. You have never seen a garden so amazing and full of potential.
As you start to focus on one bunch of flowers, you notice that there are some smaller ones and some that are larger and over powering the smaller ones. As you look closer you see that some of the larger ones are wilting a bit and look a bit weathered and one of the smaller flowers your notice that one of their leaves look like a rabbit took a bite out of it.
As you notice this you start to self-reflect on the flowers and what they might have been through in their life time such as the weather, the habitat that it lives in, how it bounces back after a drenching rain, wind storms, even snow. These are all factors of its existing state right now.
All of the flowers in each section of this beautiful garden are very different from one another, and all effected differently. Some of the larger flowers have helped the smaller ones by protecting them from the elements and but that being so, the smaller ones sometimes get less sun then the others. We recognize that our time in the sun comes through sharing and working together.
As you reflect more you can relate to this flower. You have been through your own storms in life, some big and some small. And sometimes you did not know when the rain would stop, but it eventually does and the sun shines again. Even when you thought that the winds were getting too strong, you stood tall and knew you’d bounce back. You might be a little wilted and have a bite out of you but you are here standing taller than you thought possible.
We know that the faster that we shed our own leaves with the bite out of it, the sooner we can create new leaves and learn and grow even more then we knew we could. You are a strong person that is moving forward in life with your head held high. A bright smile is on your face and it would be imposable for anyone not to smile back. With each step forward that you take in this world know that you are not alone. That there are people out there that have been through more than you. That you have the strength to work towards your goals, weather the storms along the way, take your time in the sun and grow through adversity.
As you continue to breathe deeply and start to reflect on this exercise, I hope you find yourself relaxing and allow this opportunity to take a break from the everyday world.
