We understand that your teeth and mouth are part of you: a living, breathing person with various body parts connected as a complex system, also with emotions, ambitions and concerns. During your first visit we will observe not only your current dental health, but will also discuss your medical background in general, your life circumstances, needs and desires, and aesthetic concerns.

New Patient Meet & Greet

• This visit will take about 10 minutes and is not the same as a New Patient Comprehensive Evaluation, but it will give you a chance to meet with Dr. Nagra, Dr. Nowak, Dr. Wasik and the team to:
• Ask any questions about the clinic and take a look around
• Learn about the dental technologies we use, and our sterilization practices
• Ask any questions about fees, billing or insurance
• Discuss any health or aesthetic concerns in general terms, though no diagnosis or treatment will be provided as part of your visit
• Simply get to know each other better

Sedation Dentistry

At our downtown Calgary clinic we understand you may feel anxious or fearful about coming to the dentist. We now offer sedation dentistry to you, our Calgary clients, to make your dental visit more pleasant.

Sedation dentistry, sometimes referred to as sleep dentistry, can:

• Relieve your anxiety and fear of the dentist
• Make your visit go by quickly
• Ensure a relaxed and comfortable visit
• Ensure a safe and stress-free appointment
• Leave you with a healthy smile and little recollection of your treatment

Emergency Dental Care

You may need an urgent visit to a Calgary dentist for emergency dentistry if you have:

• A broken tooth
• A tooth ache
• A lost crown or filling
• Any pain or infection in your mouth, face or neck area
• Any (other) dental problem or discomfort

For emergency dental care, we strive to see our Calgary clients within 24 hours, and the same day if possible, and new clients are always welcome. The purpose of your visit will be to relieve the discomfort, diagnose the problem and advise you of your options for resolving it.

Family Dentistry

We are a very personal office and would love to build a relationship with your whole family! That includes the adults and, of course, your children. You will all enjoy the atmosphere that we offer at Ambiance Dental, and the comfortable treatment that we provide for every member of your family.

You will also find it more convenient for all of your family members to receive treatment at one clinic, rather than the fragmented care of each family member visiting a different dentist.

Dentistry for Children and Adolescents

Although Dr. Wasik is a general practitioner, he offers great dental care for your whole family by also practicing pediatric dentistry for children and adolescents. This requires knowledge in particular areas of dental care, adapted to the unique needs of children, to ensure healthy growth of their teeth.

The service that we provide for our Calgary clients’ children is intended to promote lifelong dental health and a positive relationship between Dr. Wasik, the clinic team, you and your child. But above all it’s meant to be fun and enjoyable!

TMJ and TMD

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is one of the most complex and frequently used joints in the body. The TMJ allows your bottom jaw to move, so every time you talk, chew or swallow you are using the TMJs on either side of your head.

The TMJ affects many aspects of your body, particularly the musculoskeletal system. Some symptoms of TMD, or temporomandibular disorder, are:

Jaw pain / pain in the TMJ
Clicking of the TMJ
Difficulty opening your mouth
Pain or problems when chewing
Headaches, ear or eye aches
Sore neck muscles / tight shoulder muscles
Tooth wear
Mobility of your teeth

Splint / Night Guard

The names splint and night guard describe the same thing, an acrylic appliance that is worn on the upper or lower teeth overnight.

A splint will help with the following issues:

Headaches, and stiff or sore neck muscles
Clenching and grinding of your teeth (bruxism)
Protecting any dental work you may have (veneers, dental implants, dental crowns)
Improving the alignment of your jaw and relieving pressure on your TMJ
Helping you sleep
Helping to maintain the health of your spine and good posture

Laser Dental Treatment

The traditional approach to cavity detection has been to use a dental explorer and an x-ray to detect cavities, with this treatment leaving the majority of adults in Calgary with large fillings in their molar teeth.

Now, with laser dental treatment we are able to detect cavities earlier and provide more conservative treatment in downtown Calgary.
Restorative Dentistry

Dental Implants

If you’ve had a tooth extracted or have several missing teeth, you may be able to restore your smile permanently with dental implants! Speak and smile with confidence again, with dental implants from Dr. Wasik in Calgary.

Other treatments for missing teeth work only above your gum line, like dentures or dental bridges. Dental implants, however, are small titanium cylinders that are actually inserted into the jaw bone to replace the roots of missing teeth. A new dental crown or porcelain crown is then attached permanently on top of the implant.

The new tooth looks, feels, and works exactly like the rest of your natural teeth. Dental implants are more comfortable, more natural looking and better for chewing than removable alternatives. And replacing a tooth with a dental implant doesn’t require any preparation of your adjacent healthy teeth, as is required for anchoring a dental bridge.

Dental Crown

A dental crown (commonly known as a cap) is a dental restoration that replaces the outer surface of your tooth with ceramic material and/or gold. It is commonly used to restore a tooth when it is too damaged to support a filling, inlay or onlay.

A dental crown will strengthen your tooth, improve its colour and restore it to an ideal shape to help your bite and smile!

Dental Bridge

A dental bridge from our Calgary clinic may be suitable for you if you’re missing one or more teeth. Aside from the obvious problem of aesthetics, missing teeth can cause a potential chain reaction of problems including:

Other teeth in your mouth drifting out of position
A poorly aligned bite
TMJ issues like temporomandibular disorder (TMD)
Your jawbone shrinking where your teeth are missing

Fillings

You may require a filling to be placed at our Calgary clinic if you have a tooth with a cavity, a minor fracture, tooth wear or erosion.

Placing an amalgam filling (mercury, silver and other base metals) has been the typical procedure for fixing cavities in back teeth for many years, but we do not place amalgam fillings because of the concerns associated with mercury, its toxicity and its effect on your health and the environment. There are now several superior tooth filling options available at our Calgary clinic, depending on your needs.

Root Canal Therapy

The term ‘root canal’ commonly describes the dental treatment of removing a tooth’s pulp, disinfecting the inside of the tooth, and then filling the tooth with restorative material. However, a root canal is actually a chamber inside your tooth where the pulp tissue resides. The treatment is more correctly referred to as root canal therapy, or endodontic therapy.

Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and onlays are restorations used to repair teeth with mild to moderate decay or damage. They are a good solution when the area to restore is too large for a filling, yet not so extensive that a dental crown is required.

An inlay doesn’t cover the pointed tips (cusps) of your teeth, where an onlay will cover one or more cusps and restores a larger portion of your tooth. However, an onlay isn’t as large as a dental crown and doesn’t require as much natural tooth material to be replaced. Both restorations can either be made at a dental lab (two visit process) or using our CAD/CAM CEREC technology (only one appointment).

Health and Dentistry

Preventive Hygiene

You can keep your teeth and gums healthy by brushing regularly, flossing, and visiting our Calgary clinic for regular hygiene appointments. We recommend hygiene appointments every 6 months for most clients, but more frequently for those with unhealthy gums (gum disease).

Minimally Invasive Dentistry

Dr. Wasik firmly believes “the best dentistry is no dentistry,” that the strongest part of a tooth is its own enamel, and no matter what restorative material we use it will never be the same as your natural tooth.

Integrative Dentistry

here has been a lot of progress in dentistry and medicine over the years, but the concern of fragmented care is becoming more apparent. Specialists are focusing on their areas of expertise and the “whole patient” is sometimes going unnoticed.

It’s also common to see dental care only concerned with addressing tooth problems and treating oral disease, rather than focusing on root causes, prevention and options in dealing with each individual situation.

During your comprehensive and interactive 90 minute New Patient Comprehensive Evaluation we look at the health of your teeth, gums and bones, the alignment and function of your dental arches, TMJ and discuss any aesthetic concerns with you. With the full understanding of your strengths and areas of concern we are best equipped to decide together on the most appropriate direction for your future dental care.

Oral Cancer Screening

An oral cancer exam and early detection is vital to surviving oral cancer (mouth cancer). As a result of most oral cancers being diagnosed too late, the overall 5 year survival rate is 52%. When discovered early through regular oral cancer screening, the survival rate increases to over 80%.

Clients at Ambiance Dental in downtown Calgary will have an oral cancer exam done regularly, because we know that most other health professionals, like your doctor, don’t provide this type of screening.

Bad Breath / Halitosis

If you have bad breath (halitosis) or suspect you might, it’s a good idea to visit our clinic in Calgary. Many people suffer from bad breath, but may not realize that it can be treated by a dentist.

The most common causes of bad breath are dryness of the mouth and gum disease (periodontal disease). Gum disease is caused by plaque bacteria that produces sulphur molecules, which give off a foul odour. This can be treated at our Calgary clinic, and the odour will disappear.

Other causes of bad breath include:

We are fully compliant with the highest standards of sterilization as legislated by the Alberta Dental Association and the Government of Alberta.

To ensure cleanliness in our clinic:

• Protective overshoes are worn in the clinical area, to prevent outside contamination
• We wash our uniforms daily on site and they never leave the clinic
• All water taps are hands-free
• Water lines are treated daily for biofilm prevention
• We chose specific flooring that disinfects easily
