Your experience at Ambiance Dental begins at your New Patient Comprehensive Evaluation, where we will get to know each other and discuss all of your dental needs and desires.
This appointment is a very important first step in your dental treatment plan at our office, so we take about 90 minutes, do not rush, and answer all of your questions and address your concerns. By the end of this appointment you will have a better understanding of your dental health, options, and priorities, allowing you to make informed choices.
Dr. Nagra and Dr. Wasik are general dentists, not cosmetic dentist specialists. Cosmetic dentistry is not a term/specialty recognized by the Alberta Dental Association & College (ADA&C). Dr. Nagra and Dr. Wasik provide cosmetic dental procedures such as porcelain veneers, dental implant crowns, dental bonding, and teeth whitening as part of their general dentist license.
Dr. Nagra has been treating patients in the US and Canada for the past 10 years. With an understanding that every person is unique, Dr. Nagra approaches dental care in a genuine and personal way. She will explain the treatment options that best apply to your needs and desires. Learn more about Dr. Nagra.
Dr. Wasik is a general dentist in Calgary who has been practicing general and cosmetic dentistry for over 25 years. He has a comprehensive and preventive approach to dentistry that focuses on long-lasting health, function and aesthetics.
He also believes in integrative dentistry – a concept that the state of your teeth, gums and jaw joints can directly affect the rest of your body, like your muscular and skeletal systems, and those systems influence the condition of your mouth as well. Recent medical research also points to a correlation between dental health and heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, low child birth weight, and other conditions. Learn more about Mr. Wasik.
Second only to dentistry, Andrew’s other passion is photography. With an ability to see natural beauty, a talent that helps him in his cosmetic dentistry, he has been capturing the world through a camera lens for over 40 years and is an accomplished photographer. He is also active in the outdoors, hiking, biking and traveling, and enjoys history, philosophy and physics.
Beyond providing prompt and efficient dental care at our clinic, we also strive to make your visit as enjoyable, comfortable and as easy as possible.
Michelle, Robin, Winnie, Renee, Jolene, Amy and Sheri all play a vital role in doing so, and look forward to getting to know you better!
Team members are highly trained, not only in their own duties but also in each other’s. This will speed up your check-in and check-out because anyone can efficiently process your payment, help with insurance information or schedule your next appointment.
The administrative team is also trained in dental assisting, and they fully understand all of the treatment processes. For you, this means effective treatment planning and scheduling when you book your appointments.
All staff members also take part in continuing education as well as in-house meetings to stay on top of new procedures, technologies and patient care.
We are able to provide service in English, French, Cantonese, and Polish.
We understand that your teeth and mouth are part of you: a living, breathing person with various body parts connected as a complex system, also with emotions, ambitions and concerns. During your first visit we will observe not only your current dental health, but will also discuss your medical background in general, your life circumstances, needs and desires, and aesthetic concerns.
At our downtown Calgary clinic we understand you may feel anxious or fearful about coming to the dentist. We now offer sedation dentistry to you, our Calgary clients, to make your dental visit more pleasant.
Sedation dentistry, sometimes referred to as sleep dentistry, can:
You may need an urgent visit to a Calgary dentist for emergency dentistry if you have:
For emergency dental care, we strive to see our Calgary clients within 24 hours, and the same day if possible, and new clients are always welcome. The purpose of your visit will be to relieve the discomfort, diagnose the problem and advise you of your options for resolving it.
We are a very personal office and would love to build a relationship with your whole family! That includes the adults and, of course, your children. You will all enjoy the atmosphere that we offer at Ambiance Dental, and the comfortable treatment that we provide for every member of your family.
You will also find it more convenient for all of your family members to receive treatment at one clinic, rather than the fragmented care of each family member visiting a different dentist.
Although Dr. Wasik is a general practitioner, he offers great dental care for your whole family by also practicing pediatric dentistry for children and adolescents. This requires knowledge in particular areas of dental care, adapted to the unique needs of children, to ensure healthy growth of their teeth.
The service that we provide for our Calgary clients’ children is intended to promote lifelong dental health and a positive relationship between Dr. Wasik, the clinic team, you and your child. But above all it’s meant to be fun and enjoyable!
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is one of the most complex and frequently used joints in the body. The TMJ allows your bottom jaw to move, so every time you talk, chew or swallow you are using the TMJs on either side of your head.
The TMJ affects many aspects of your body, particularly the musculoskeletal system. Some symptoms of TMD, or temporomandibular disorder, are:
Jaw pain / pain in the TMJ
Clicking of the TMJ
Difficulty opening your mouth
Pain or problems when chewing
Headaches, ear or eye aches
Sore neck muscles / tight shoulder muscles
Tooth wear
Mobility of your teeth
The names splint and night guard describe the same thing, an acrylic appliance that is worn on the upper or lower teeth overnight.
A splint will help with the following issues:
Headaches, and stiff or sore neck muscles
Clenching and grinding of your teeth (bruxism)
Protecting any dental work you may have (veneers, dental implants, dental crowns)
Improving the alignment of your jaw and relieving pressure on your TMJ
Helping you sleep
Helping to maintain the health of your spine and good posture
The traditional approach to cavity detection has been to use a dental explorer and an x-ray to detect cavities, with this treatment leaving the majority of adults in Calgary with large fillings in their molar teeth.
Now, with laser dental treatment we are able to detect cavities earlier and provide more conservative treatment in downtown Calgary.
Restorative Dentistry
If you’ve had a tooth extracted or have several missing teeth, you may be able to restore your smile permanently with dental implants! Speak and smile with confidence again, with dental implants from Dr. Wasik in Calgary.
Other treatments for missing teeth work only above your gum line, like dentures or dental bridges. Dental implants, however, are small titanium cylinders that are actually inserted into the jaw bone to replace the roots of missing teeth. A new dental crown or porcelain crown is then attached permanently on top of the implant.
The new tooth looks, feels, and works exactly like the rest of your natural teeth. Dental implants are more comfortable, more natural looking and better for chewing than removable alternatives. And replacing a tooth with a dental implant doesn’t require any preparation of your adjacent healthy teeth, as is required for anchoring a dental bridge.
A dental crown (commonly known as a cap) is a dental restoration that replaces the outer surface of your tooth with ceramic material and/or gold. It is commonly used to restore a tooth when it is too damaged to support a filling, inlay or onlay.
A dental crown will strengthen your tooth, improve its colour and restore it to an ideal shape to help your bite and smile!
A dental bridge from our Calgary clinic may be suitable for you if you’re missing one or more teeth. Aside from the obvious problem of aesthetics, missing teeth can cause a potential chain reaction of problems including:
Other teeth in your mouth drifting out of position
A poorly aligned bite
TMJ issues like temporomandibular disorder (TMD)
Your jawbone shrinking where your teeth are missing
You may require a filling to be placed at our Calgary clinic if you have a tooth with a cavity, a minor fracture, tooth wear or erosion.
Placing an amalgam filling (mercury, silver and other base metals) has been the typical procedure for fixing cavities in back teeth for many years, but we do not place amalgam fillings because of the concerns associated with mercury, its toxicity and its effect on your health and the environment. There are now several superior tooth filling options available at our Calgary clinic, depending on your needs.
The term ‘root canal’ commonly describes the dental treatment of removing a tooth’s pulp, disinfecting the inside of the tooth, and then filling the tooth with restorative material. However, a root canal is actually a chamber inside your tooth where the pulp tissue resides. The treatment is more correctly referred to as root canal therapy, or endodontic therapy.
Inlays and onlays are restorations used to repair teeth with mild to moderate decay or damage. They are a good solution when the area to restore is too large for a filling, yet not so extensive that a dental crown is required.
An inlay doesn’t cover the pointed tips (cusps) of your teeth, where an onlay will cover one or more cusps and restores a larger portion of your tooth. However, an onlay isn’t as large as a dental crown and doesn’t require as much natural tooth material to be replaced. Both restorations can either be made at a dental lab (two visit process) or using our CAD/CAM CEREC technology (only one appointment).
Your smile is the first thing that people notice when they meet you. Having a brighter, whiter smile leaves a better impression and will greatly improve how you feel about yourself!
At our downtown Calgary clinic, we can help brighten your smile with teeth whitening that will:
Our teeth whitening works better and faster than any alternative, it's safe and effective, and the treatment has long lasting results. Using the provided take-home trays for periodic touch-ups, you can maintain your teeth whitening results for years.
Porcelain veneers, placed at our Calgary clinic, can be a very effective way to repair or enhance your smile. They are a safe, gentle and long-lasting approach to cosmetic dentistry that will beautify your smile and help boost your confidence!
At our Calgary clinic, we use porcelain veneers to:
We can place porcelain veneers for one or two problem teeth, or for several teeth to improve your whole smile.
Composite artistry is a much more elaborate form of dental bonding, which takes treatment to the extremes of perfection for dramatic and naturally looking results. However, it is an affordable option for smile restoration at more than half of the cost of porcelain veneers.
As the name implies, it is dentistry as an art form, yielding a beautifully restored smile that will boost your self-esteem and help you look and feel your best. We are very proud to offer this specialized form of cosmetic dentistry at our downtown Calgary clinic.
For clients looking for an affordable way to transform their smile with a cosmetic makeover, we offer Snap-On Smile: an appliance that comfortably fits over your teeth, snapping into place to give you an entirely new smile!
A Snap-On Smile has many benefits:
Dental bonding is a treatment where a durable tooth-coloured material is applied to your tooth surface and sculpted to create a new, flawless, natural looking tooth. It’s minimally invasive with incredible results that are unnoticeable and will help to restore or improve your smile.
Dental bonding is an ideal treatment to help:
We can perform this dental restoration at our downtown Calgary office for a single tooth or to improve your entire smile.
A laser gum lift, or gum contouring, is a comfortable and quick-healing treatment that will improve the look of your teeth, balance your smile and give you the confidence to keep smiling!
You may be a good candidate for a laser gum lift if:
Gum contouring will not only improve the appearance of your smile, it can make it easier to manage your dental health. The treatment uses local anesthetics to minimize pain and you will heal quickly after only a few days of mild discomfort.
You can keep your teeth and gums healthy by brushing regularly, flossing, and visiting our Calgary clinic for regular hygiene appointments. We recommend hygiene appointments every 6 months for most clients, but more frequently for those with unhealthy gums (gum disease).
Dr. Wasik firmly believes “the best dentistry is no dentistry,” that the strongest part of a tooth is its own enamel, and no matter what restorative material we use it will never be the same as your natural tooth.
So Dr. Wasik always aims to preserve as much healthy tooth structure as possible. He applies this concept of minimally invasive dentistry at every step: examination and diagnosis, prevention and treatment using current technologies
here has been a lot of progress in dentistry and medicine over the years, but the concern of fragmented care is becoming more apparent. Specialists are focusing on their areas of expertise and the “whole patient” is sometimes going unnoticed.
It’s also common to see dental care only concerned with addressing tooth problems and treating oral disease, rather than focusing on root causes, prevention and options in dealing with each individual situation.
We’re different! At Ambiance Dental we like to get to know you very thoroughly, spending enough time to learn about your needs and desires, life circumstances, medical background and the state of your oral health. During your comprehensive and interactive 90 minute New Patient Comprehensive Evaluation we look at the health of your teeth, gums and bones, the alignment and function of your dental arches, TMJ and discuss any aesthetic concerns with you. With the full understanding of your strengths and areas of concern we are best equipped to decide together on the most appropriate direction for your future dental care.
An oral cancer exam and early detection is vital to surviving oral cancer (mouth cancer). As a result of most oral cancers being diagnosed too late, the overall 5 year survival rate is 52%. When discovered early through regular oral cancer screening, the survival rate increases to over 80%.
Clients at Ambiance Dental in downtown Calgary will have an oral cancer exam done regularly, because we know that most other health professionals, like your doctor, don’t provide this type of screening.
If you have bad breath (halitosis) or suspect you might, it’s a good idea to visit our clinic in Calgary. Many people suffer from bad breath, but may not realize that it can be treated by a dentist.
The most common causes of bad breath are dryness of the mouth and gum disease (periodontal disease). Gum disease is caused by plaque bacteria that produces sulphur molecules, which give off a foul odour. This can be treated at our Calgary clinic, and the odour will disappear.
Other causes of bad breath include:
As the name hints, this is a process of crafting a completely beautiful and new smile for you, with the help of modern technology and dental practices.
We start with the analysis of your facial and dental features, from your teeth to your gums, lips, cheeks and even eyes. All of your facial features contribute to how your mouth and smile appear, whether you're at rest, talking, smiling or belly laughing! Our analysis captures your full character, so we are starting with the best "raw materials" for what we're going to create together.
With photographs, imagery and video that show your current appearance, we're able to digitally design the improvements that will shape your new smile. This is a collaborative process, where you're able to take part in deciding how you want your smile to look, with Dr. Nagra's guidance, input, and use of technology.
Our process lets you see a digital representation of how how your new smile will take shape, before dental treatment even begins.
We are fully compliant with the highest standards of sterilization as legislated by the Alberta Dental Association and the Government of Alberta.
