Osteopathy

Manual Osteopathy is a holistic system of healing that is hands-on and non-invasive. It is based on the belief that the body is a unit and is capable of self-healing. Manual Osteopaths work with their hands to mobilize joints, bones, and the soft tissues in the body in order to relieve pain, stimulate healing, remove restriction and to bring the body back into alignment.

In Osteopathic Philosophy there is a belief that structure governs function. Structural problems can cause a wide variety of issues such as nerve compression, muscle spasms, joint pain or even such problems as headaches and digestive issues. By finding the root cause of some of these conditions – The practitioner will use a variety of hands-on techniques to correct the structural problem in order to restore function.

Osteopathy is drug-free, non-invasive, totally natural, and very effective. Osteopathic Manual Practitioners are becoming more and more highly regarded in their ability to treat chronic pain and musculoskeletal conditions – Manual Osteopaths are quite often the “last stop” for many patients who have tried everything and still hadn’t found the relief they were looking for.

Cranial Osteopathy

Cranial Osteopathy is a form of bodywork that focuses on treating disorders of the skull – Although this can also have far-reaching effects in other places of the body.

The human skull is made up of 22 different bones. These bones are partially fused together by joints called sutures. The sutures of the skull are not completely fused and allow for small movements. These movements not only help to accommodate for the circulation of blood and cerebrospinal fluid – But they also help in absorbing shock and trauma from blows to the head.

Problems stemming from genetics, birth trauma, or blunt impacts to the head can cause these bones to become misaligned or compacted together. When this happens it can restrict the flow of blood and cerebrospinal fluid, compress nerves, and/or cause a variety of symptoms such as migraines.

Cranial Osteopathy seeks to address these issues by working to decompress and mobilize the sutures of the skull as well as by encouraging fluid movement in the cranium.

Visceral Osteopathy

Visceral Manipulation is a branch of Osteopathy that focuses on treating the internal organs of the body rather than simply the musculoskeletal system. Treatment of the internal organs can create powerful physiological changes in the body and stimulate the bodies to own inner healing tendencies and improve patient outcomes.

The internal organs of the body play an important role in our posture, pain, and overall health. Our organs are responsible for keeping our body alive and healthy. Many problems and pains in the body may not be a cause but actually a symptom of a deeper underlying issue.

When an organ is in dysfunction it will often refer pain to other places in the body. Musculoskeletal pain in specific areas of the body can all be the external expression of an internal problem. For this reason hands on treatment of the visceral organs can actually correct problems in the muscles and joints.

Physical trauma such as falls from heights, car accidents, and other high-impact trauma’s such as sports injuries can often damage the internal organs and their surrounding structures. Instead of simply getting treatment for the bones and joints affected by the impact – It is important that the visceral organs get some love and attention too.

Visceral Manipulation can also help with problems related directly to the organs themselves. For example, many patients with crohns, colitis, acid reflux and more have found great benefits from receiving this kind of treatment.

Visceral Manipulation may benefit:

  • Chronic musculoskeletal pain
  • Headaches and Migraines
  • Sciatica
  • Back, hip and knee pain
  • Whiplash and other physical trauma
  • Shoulder periarthritis and capsulitis (Frozen Shoulder)

Private Yoga Classes

Private Yoga classes are available upon request. I have been certified in a fairly traditional style of Hatha Yoga in Kerala, India and am very knowledgeable in the theory and philosophy of the Yogic practice. The combined knowledge of my many years of teaching and practicing yoga, as-well-as my deep understanding of anatomy allows me to create custom classes specifically for your needs.

Classes are held at Kala Yoga in Orangeville. Private Yoga classes are a great way to strengthen and stretch the body. Yoga helps to increase bodily awareness, release negative emotions, and cultivate inner-peace and balance. There are many benefits to traditional Yoga that simply cannot be replicated by more modern healing arts or fitness classes. This is highly recommended to any patient who is looking for inner peace, relaxation, and for a deeper connection to their body and to life itself.

Meditation

Cultivate a balanced and powerful inner peace, through a guided and highly structured meditation practice. According to the Dalai Lama: Daily Meditation can transform the mind from a vehicle of pain and suffering to an ocean of peace and bliss. You will discover the keys to releasing stress, anxiety, pain, grief or loss and discover peacefulness and joy. Research shows that meditation has a powerful effect on your brain, balancing your biochemistry, improving self-regulation, moods, sleep, well being and enhancing memory and cognitive functions.

Meditation is offered only on a cash basis.
