What is a physiotherapist?

What is a physiotherapist? And what do they do?

A Physiotherapist is a university educated health professional and is recognized as a first line care giver through the Ontario Ministry of health. A physiotherapist has an advanced understanding and comprehension of how the human Healthy Body moves and what is keeping it from moving freely and also how to restore mobility when it is limited.

Physiotherapists are skilled in the assessment and management of an extensive range of conditions that affect the musculoskeletal, circulatory, and respiratory and nervous systems.  When you see a physiotherapist, he or she will complete an extensive functional/work assessment that may include your health history, evaluation of pain and movement patterns, strength, joint range of motion, reflexes and sensation.

Based on this assessment the physiotherapist creates a diagnosis and works in partnership with you to develop your individual goals and a treatment plan.
