Evidence-Based Therapy

We work primarily with couples and individuals using evidence-based approaches in dealing with relationship issues, separation, anxiety, depression, trauma, disordered eating and ADHD. These evidence-based methods include cognitive behavioral therapy, eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR), emotionally focused therapy (EFT), dialetical behavioural therapy (DBT), psychodynamic, family systems, solution-focused therapy and mindfulness practices.

Couples and Marriage Counselling

What to bring to your first appointment?

To maximize your level of success, come to your first appointment with a list of your medications, any recent blood work, and a record of your eating over the last 3-4 days. If you test your blood sugars, bring your glucometer and/or log. Follow up appointments will be booked during your first session together based on your personal goals.

Welcome To Our Practice

Bach Counselling brings an expertise to working with those who wish to make a positive change in relationships, intimacy, depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, parenting and eating disorders. We work with individuals and couples who are dealing with issues that may adversely affect their relationships. We strive to help you to achieve your goals.

Our mission is to provide high quality trauma informed counselling to the community. We are dedicated to continued training in evidence-based practices and with this, bring our clients to more joy, peace and fulfilling relationships.

Our Counsellors

Heather Bach, MA, CCC - Clinical Director

Heather Bach brings 20 years of experience and training to her role as the Clinical Director of the Bach Counselling Centre. Holding a Master’s in Psychology, she is a Certified Canadian Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and a Certified Relationship Specialist (CRS) with the American Psychotherapy Association. Cited as an expert in the media, Heather has appeared on radio and television and has been the subject of numerous interviews. She has developed treatment programs and supervised and guided many students in counselling.

Heather has also designed and developed the North Shore Program for Children Affected by Family Violence. She has specialized in the treatment of trauma in women, men, and children.

Heather has designed and facilitated various therapeutic groups including those for women in abusive relationships and for those dealing with disordered eating. Heather is a regular guest speaker at events and forums that focus on emotional eating focusing on the relationship between emotional eating and interpersonal intimacy.

Her work with couples fosters greater understanding and more deeply fulfilling connections between partners and among family members. Through her education and experience, Heather strives to meet the goals and needs of the client.

Michelle Moloney, MA, RCC - Clinical Counsellor

Michelle completed her Master of Psychology (Clinical) at the University of New South Wales, Australia, and is a Registered Clinical Counsellor. Michelle uses cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) to help people develop strategies to improve their quality of life. She also incorporates other evidence-based practices (eg mindfulness, dialectical behaviour therapy, motivational strategies) to tailor treatment to the needs of her clients. Michelle works with individuals who experience depression, anxiety, phobias, disordered eating, mild to moderate substance use disorders, trauma, and stress.

Michelle brings extensive experience working with disordered eating along with counselling people with substance use disorders and specifically anxiety, depression, trauma, and psychosis. She has several years of experience as a clinical supervisor for graduate students in psychology and social work, addiction counselling training, and professional development.

Michelle is a skilled, goal-oriented counsellor who is focused on helping individuals improve their life.

Paula Coutinho, MA, RCC - Clinical Counsellor

Paula Coutinho is a Mental Health Clinician and Educator. With a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, she is registered with the British Columbia Association for Clinical Counsellors. Paula provides individual, couple and family therapy including treatment of trauma, depression, anxiety, bereavement, post-traumatic stress disorder, eating disorder, developmental disorders among other mental health conditions and learned behaviours.

Paula supports individuals and families during challenging times fostering self-efficacy, safety and the expansion of new practical coping skills. She brings years of experience in social work where she gained a well-rounded understanding of the effects of trauma, addictions and stress responses on the behavioral, emotional, mental, and spiritual development of individuals and families.

Paula is committed and skilled with her clients, helping them achieve their goals to thrive in meaningful life.

Cameron Gibson, MA (Candidate)

Cameron served the Vancouver community as a Life Skills Counsellor and Behavioral Interventionist working with youth and young adults. He specializes in helping those with developmental disabilities, and dual diagnosis of anxiety and depression. Cameron helps to transition youth prepare for adulthood, often coaching his clients towards resiliency, goal development, and life purpose.

Cameron also works with youth using behavioral intervention techniques to improve problematic behavior, anger management, and anxiety. He has been working in the social services field for over five years including experience in Sports & Recreation, Applied Behavior Analysis as well as Child and Youth Care Counselling. His passion is focusing on exercise and movement with a person-centered style of counselling. We are fortunate to have Cameron as part of the BCG team.

Cameron served the Vancouver community as a Life Skills Counsellor and Behavioral Interventionist working with youth and young adults. Ellen Mackay, M.Sc., RD, CDE - Clinical Dietitian

Ellen is a Clinical Dietitian with over 27 years experience in a wide range of nutrition specialty areas including diabetes management, heart disease, weight management, enteral nutrition, pediatric care and eating disorders. She is registered with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia and is a Board Certified Diabetes Educator. Ellen received her Masters degree in Human Nutrition from the University of British Columbia. In addition to her work with Bach Counselling Group, Ellen provides nutritional counselling for patients of Vancouver Coastal Health and the North Shore Eating Disorders Program. Through one-to-one counseling, small group and nutrition education seminars, Ellen strives to help her clients attain their nutrition and health goals.
